What an honor to be part of “Masking Tape” by @achimbagan

I’ve had two intense years. Years in which I often wondered if I was good enough, years in which I put pressure on myself and almost lost my passion for music. I want to use this album to talk about that and how it saved me.

I started producing electronic music at 12, inspired by @martingarrix and the dream of one day standing on a big stage and moving people with my music. After graduating from high school, I decided against architecture and went “all in” on music, starting my audio engineering studies at the @sae.institute.berlin.

During my studies, I realized how many talented people share the same dream as me. Through my circle of friends, my interest in pop, jazz, and soul music grew, causing me to drift further and further away from electronic music. However, I was still a complete beginner when it came to producing those genres.

The closer I got to the end of my studies, the more my doubts grew. I simply wasn’t where I wanted to be at that point. Was I perhaps not talented enough? Am I not doing enough? Is my passion real, or am I just doing this for the money? I asked myself these questions. My motivation started fading, and I seriously considered giving up music.

But…

There were a few reasons why I didn’t give up, and the biggest one was the “Masking Tape” mixtape. It all started when I showed Achim the mixes from my thesis. He was so excited that he asked me to help him with his own songs. Shortly after graduation, we collaborated on the music for a short film by @theocarow, @philippboukhors, and the wonderful @daimonbork called “Für dich ist immer noch Sommer”. That’s also how the mixtape’s first song, “Here Comes The Morning,” came to be.

I put so much time and passion into the mixes that the songs now feel like my own. I am infinitely grateful to be part of this project and proud of what we’ve created together. And I hope to be able to share my own music again in the future.

Thank you to everyone, my friends, my family who supported me during that time and especially @achimbagan, for giving me the opportunity and a reason not to give up on music!

cyanotype project for @achimbagan new tape!!

shot between the snow and the studio on large, medium, and 35mm film + digital.

we self-developed three batches of film, then used both film and digital negatives to create the cyanotypes.

hours of testing exposure, rearranging, trying again.

completely self made, couldn’t be happier with how it turned out :)
