This month marks exactly 10 years since I first set foot in a Berlin techno club (3rd photo is from that first trip) 🖤 I met @ackermanlily right around the same time, before she moved from the Bay Area to Berlin.

Lily has the honor of being the first DJ I ever officially booked, back in 2017 for the first edition of Noctuary. Tomorrow night will be our first b2b together since 2019, and we have the honor of closing the night from 4-6am at @ohmberlin, after the incredible @mike_parker_geophone, Convextion, and endzeit residents @___torsion & @rmnalive

All the memories and feelings this night brings up are too elaborate to get into here, but it will be a special @__endzeit

On 20 June we were at the first gathering Endzeit and Domus put on together. The San Francisco non-profit has left its own continent behind for a European tour, and it kicked off in Ostuni, in the south of Italy. The gathering landed at Lullabay, a small, intimate venue right on the sea inside the “Dune Costiere Nature Reserve”, run in partnership with local collective and label Domus, the project of duo @crossing_avenue .

The night only sharpened a conviction we keep coming back to: small, living scenes — built by tight communities who actually listen, and steered by a careful hand behind the booking — are how you regenerate an underground too often written off as saturated and half-dead.

At its core, the night brought together two producers who have shaped how whole generations hear the genre: Buffalo’s scientist @mike_parker_geophone , to our ears one of the most singular and prolific producers of the past two decades, and Italian Maestro @dinosabatiniofficial  
Ahead of them, Bologna’s @marcomaldarella threaded deep techno through psy techno with real touch. Earlier, as the sun dropped, Endzeit founders @___torsion and @_kudeki opened the floor with a b2b.  Endzeit’s European tour continues tomorrow, 16 July, at Berlin’s @ohmberlin (with Mike Parker, Convextion and more), then 18 July at @fvtvr_paris in Paris, where Italian master Donato Dozzy takes an extended set, and 24 July at @magickbar in Rome for “Neel invites Endzeit”.

We welcome @ackermanlily for the 143rd installment of our Amplify Series.

Based in Berlin, Lily Ackerman is a DJ and producer whose sound bridges hypnotic and melodic techno with leftfield electronics through immersive, narrative-driven sets. Originally from a quiet farming town in Illinois, her journey into underground electronic music began after moving to the San Francisco Bay Area, where she co-founded the vinyl-focused Diacritic Collective and became a resident at the long-running As You Like It parties.

Since relocating to Berlin in 2019, Lily’s selections have brought her to Germany’s respected institutions, including Berghain, Tresor, Renate, Else, Rote Sonne, elipamanoke, and objekt klein a. Alongside her work behind the decks, she has spent over a decade refining her production style, with releases on Mioli Music, Perfect Location Records, Vinyl Dreams Records, As You Like It Recordings, and Perimeter Junk. Her productions balance hypnotic groove with textured sound design, drawing equally from the dance floor and experimental electronic music.

Beyond the club, Lily is an active part of Berlin’s wider music and arts community, with appearances on Refuge Worldwide, Berlin’s community-driven radio station and collaborations across contemporary art. For Berlin Art Week 2024, Lily collaborated with artist Sarah Ancelle Schönfeld on the sound for Labor Lab, Sarah’s experimental photo exhibition at the Schering Stiftung that explores the systems that shape and regulate female reproduction. Working together, they transformed just two field recordings from Sarah’s pregnancy, her voice during labor and an ultrasound recording of the fetal heartbeat, into an evolving composition that gradually unfolds into a cathartic techno piece.

For her Dirty Epic podcast, Lily presents an all-vinyl mix that unfolds with warmth and melody before gradually giving way to more driving, experimental territory. Patiently paced and carefully constructed, it traces a journey from introspection to intensity.

Next Thursday, July 16, Endzeit debuts at OHM with six artists from the American underground.

Convextion brings his live set back to Endzeit, a decades-long study of dub techno, electro, and ambient. Mike Parker returns for a three-hour DJ set, his unmistakable synthesis language transformed into a relentless and physical form. Lily Ackerman, Berlin-based artist and former Bay Area resident, makes her OHM and Endzeit debut alongside Endzeit’s Kudeki, Torsion, and RMNA.

On July 16th, Endzeit debuts at OHM Berlin.

Six artists whose work reflects the evolving edge of the American underground will present a curated journey through synthesis and space.

Mike Parker (@mike_parker_geophone) brings a synthesis language first articulated on his 2001 debut Dispatches and continuously expanded since, most recently into broken rhythms and drum & bass on @samurai_music. Convextion (live) is the long-running project of Gerard Hanson, whose work across dub techno, electro and ambient has remained singular for nearly three decades. Lily Ackerman (@ackermanlily), with roots in San Francisco’s underground, brings the sonic precision and patience she has developed over a decade within Berlin techno. Endzeit residents Kudeki, Torsion and RMNA complete the program.

It never stops being an honor to play extended sets in the best club in the world. It’s surreal to see my name among so many artists who I have incredible respect for, both new and seasoned one’s. In a slight sentimental moment, @nick_hoeppner was the first DJ I ever heard play in Berghain, and the first DJ I ever took over from at my first gig ever in Berghain in 2008. It’s cool to be sharing closing duties in adjacent rooms with him for the first time. After quite a saga, I’ve arrived in Berlin, got some much needed sleep, and am now able to just go along for the ride with all of you. I can’t wait to see you all soon! ❤️
