POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

“Rille,” live at Nublu, is now out on YouTube (link in bio).

This groovy one features the amazing Andy Clausen and was recorded just one day before we went into the studio to make Spirit In You. A little glimpse of the music and energy that led into the record.

NYC friends, it’s time we tell you about a very special thing happening in December. We’re coming to the @92ndstreety to premiere our arrangement of Maria Schneider’s “Winter Morning Walks” with vocalist @vuyosotashe, PLUS a world premiere commission by the brilliant @ellisludwigleone.

❄️❄️❄️❄️

Tickets are already selling fast so we do recommend all Besterlies get tix in advance. You have been warned.

The Westerlies were so honored for the community support around the group’s first-ever GRAMMY nomination last year for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Capella, for our rendition of a 19th-century Shape Note tune.

This year, we have two deeply personal new projects on the ballot:

The Westerlies – “B61” by Aoife O’Donovan
•Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella

Have You Heard? The Music of Bill Frisell, Vol. 1
•11 world premiere recordings of new compositions by Bill Frisell

Both releases celebrate musical heroes who have since become dear friends and collaborators.

In Bill’s own words: “I was excited by the prospect of The Westerlies playing some of my music. I didn’t tell them anything. No instructions. Just handed over my little sketches. They knew what to do. Surprise me. I am thrilled with the result. They understood and stayed true to what was on the page, went deeper, developed it, took it somewhere without losing sight of where it was coming from in the first place. Imagination. They turned a line or a drawing into a painting.”

Thank you for listening and happy voting this FYCseason.

"I try to live my life and approach my creative practice with three simple principles: consistency, curiosity, and kindness. I try to focus on finding joy in the work itself, in the messy journey of making stuff, with other humans. Contrary to what the AI CEOs are trying to tell/sell us, making music is fun as hell, and a great privilege, not to be taken for granted." - Andy Clausen (Fleet Foxes, Aoife O’Donovan, Sam Amidon)

It was the honor of our life to be nominated for a GRAMMY in the category of “Best Arrangement, Instrumental or a Cappella” last year.

This year, we’re on the first round ballot in that very same category for our arrangement of Aoife O’Donovan’s song “B61.” Friends in the Recording Academy, we’d be honored if you give this track a listen!

FYC: Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Capella

The Westerlies: “B61” by Aoife O’Donovan
👀👀👀

FYC: Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Capella

@westerliesmusic first started making music with @aoifemaria in 2022, and she has since become a beloved friend and collaborator on our projects, and her 2024 grammy-nominated album “All My Friends.”

“B61,” Aoife’s love letter to New York City Public Transit, is a song we learned sitting in with Aoife on tour together, and later adapted for this quartet rendition for our live album “Songbook, Vol. 3.” I just want to play this vamp all day…

Recording academy friends, first round voting has begun!
