Estrogen, growth spurts, and gait: how much do they shape injury risk in young athletes? ?
Join us for our next Journal Club with Samantha Landau, DPM, MPH, FACPM, FACFAS, as she breaks down the latest evidence on how hormonal cycles, biological maturation, and sex differences influence lower limb biomechanics in youth sports.
In this session, you’ll explore:
How peak estradiol during the ovulatory phase affects
joint laxity, gait mechanics, and injury risk in female athletes
How pubertal timing drives different patterns of gait, strength, and biomechanical development in adolescent males and females
How to build sex-specific screening, gait analysis, and
injury prevention strategies for young athletes
Dr. Landau is a fellowship-trained expert in gait-related disorders of the lower extremity, triple board-certified (including by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine), and an assistant professor of biomechanics at NYCPM.
Whether you’re a student, resident, fellow, or practicing physician, this is a must-attend conversation for anyone treating active kids and teens.

🌎Our impact reaches beyond our exam rooms.
On International Podiatry Day, we’re celebrating our profession that does far more than most people realize.
We are surgeons, researchers, educators, innovators, and advocates. We preserve limbs, restore mobility, manage complex medical conditions, and help patients reclaim their independence. We are podiatrists.
And the need for our specialized care continues to grow.
🌎589 million adults worldwide are living with diabetes, with that number projected to reach 853 million by 2050.
🩺5.5% of people living with diabetes experience active foot ulceration, according to a pooled global estimate.
📈The global podiatry services market is projected to grow 3.35% annually through 2031.
These numbers represent more than statistics.
They represent our patients, our communities, and opportunities for our profession to make a meaningful difference.
At @thepodiatryfoundation, we believe advancing podiatric medicine begins with inspiring the next generation to see what’s possible.
Because every step forward in podiatry starts with passionate minds, skilled hands, and people ready to make a difference.
✨Happy International Podiatry Day!✨

ACPM Clues, Cuts, & Cases! 🔎

Thank you to everyone who joined us, raced through clues, put their surgical skills to the test, and cracked the case with us!

An even bigger thank you to our incredible panel and to Dr. Sy for dedicating their evening to walk us through the steps of tackling such a complex case. Events like this bridge the classroom and the OR, and we couldn’t have done it without your guidance.

Keep an eye out for the next event! We’re just getting started!

Your toes are like your check engine light—ignore them long enough, and the whole ride gets bumpy.

Remember, healthy feet are no joke, and we're definitely not lack-toes intolerant to good care!

That’s a wrap on our very first book club! 🏛️✨

Over the past month, we explored all 12 books of Meditations. Meditations by Marcus Aurelius wasn’t written for the public; it was a private journal of personal reminders on how to stay grounded, composed, and purposeful under immense pressure.

While these Stoic principles apply to every area of life, they feel especially pertinent to the demands of medical training and clinical practice.

Thank you for joining me for the first DPM Book Club. Until the next book… 📖

💬 Which of the 12 principles resonated with you the most? Drop your favorite takeaway in the comments below!
