Thank you to all of the artists and friends of the gallery for another year of exhibitions and fairs! For the next week, we’re looking back at our programming from 2024 before we ring in the new year 🎉

Our first solo show of paintings by the late @francesco_polenghi continued into early 2024. We were honored for the show by reviewed by Barry Schwabsky @mr_tranquil_tranquil_waters in @artforum. We looking forward to showing a group of Polenghi paintings that have never been exhibited in early 2025.

We also closed a show of small works by @__alison_hall__, whose methodical markmaking references both Italian art and her memories and experiences in Virginia.

In January and February, we showed a group of recent drawings by @jmontbarron in the Garden Cabin, which began as a habitual practice while making phone calls and developed into an ongoing body of work.

We also opened a show of new work by @mike_ousley_art in February, focusing on his recent series of paintings on paper, which reinterpret Appalachian folklore.

In March, we showed a group of never-before-seen works by Janet Sobel at the Outsider Art Fair, as well as recent paintings by @veragirivi, works on paper by @acs_fineart and Sara Sebastianis, and tooled leather paintings by Winfred Rembert. We’re excited to show at the @outsiderartfair again in February!

Congratulations to Ashley Shapiro @acs_fineart on the opening of her solo show “Water/Wind” in Bloomington, Indiana @gathershoppe last week! 🎉 Ashley’s recent drawings and paintings focus on the connection between the natural world and the spiritual world.

“These paintings represent the vast universe and the continual quest to release that which weighs us down, evolving to better serve our purpose.”
Ashley Shapiro

We are honored to have shown Ashley’s work, as well as the work of her grandmother Janet Sobel, in various shows over the last 6 years. This includes exhibitions at our gallery in Connecticut, as well as in art fairs including the Outsider Art Fair @outsiderartfair, Intersect Aspen, and the Dallas Art Fair @dallasartfair 🌟

“These early memories with my grandmother, with whom I lived for much of my upbringing, are indelibly inscribed in my mind and heart.”
Ashley Shapiro

We look forward to showing Ashley’s work at the upcoming 2025 Outsider Art Fair!

It’s time to reflect on something that’s been a solid positive force in my personal art world. The artwork of my dear friend Ashley Shapiro. She goes by the handle @acs_fineart My run in the art world hasn’t been that long but I know she was there for most of it. She has become dear to me as a strong spiritual presence in my life and true friend. I’ve never met her or her amazing husband Larry in person but we have sent pieces of art to each other and have kept a very open dialogue going. I am so appreciative to have this special collection of her work. It’s very dear to me. Did I mention she’s originally from Jersey ??
We love @acs_fineart

“The most famous drip painter you’ve never heard of is poised to make a comeback.”
Natilee Harren @noharren

Make sure to check out the current edition of @artforum for Natilee Harren’s review of Janet Sobel: All-Over, which is currently on view at the Menil @menilcollection.

“Sobel collapses figure and ground as motifs inspired by Ukrainian folk art meet a Chagallian, faux-naïf elegance. Is it primitive or modern? How do we choose, and do we have to?”
Natilee Hareen

We are proud to have shown Sobel’s work since 2016, in solo and group shows at our gallery and at art fairs across the country, and to have seen the growing recognition for her work over the last several years.
