๐Ÿšจ URGENT CALL TO ACTION: STAND WITH NORTHERN VILLAGE TENANTS! ๐Ÿšจ Last week, several Northern Village tenants attended the St. Louis County Council meeting to share powerful testimonies about the deplorable living conditions they have been forced to endure. Since that meeting, Mendel Fischer and his company, Mazal LLC, have reportedly secured a partial loan to address the outstanding gas bill. HOWEVER, THE CRISIS IS FAR FROM OVER! Tenants are STILL experiencing unsafe and unacceptable living conditions, including no hot water, lead hazards, pest infestations, and sewage leaks. Meanwhile, the St. Louis County Council has yet to approve the $450,000 in emergency funding, and 150+ families remain at risk of displacement! This is an IMMEDIATE and URGENT matter that demands action! โœŠ๐Ÿพ HERE ARE TWO WAYS YOU CAN SHOW YOUR SUPPORT TODAY! 1๏ธโƒฃ ATTEND THE NORTHERN VILLAGE PRESS CONFERENCE ๐Ÿ“… Tuesday, October 20th โฐ 4:30 PM ๐Ÿ“ Northern Village Apartments 5303 Lucas and Hunt Rd., St. Louis, MO 63136 2๏ธโƒฃ PACK THE ROOM AT THE COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING ๐Ÿ“… Tuesday, October 20th โฐ 6:00 PM ๐Ÿ“ 41 S. Central Ave., Clayton, MO 63105 ๐Ÿ“ข NORTHERN VILLAGE TENANTS HAVE TWO CLEAR DEMANDS: 1. The St. Louis County Council approve $450,000 in relocation assistance, distributed as direct cash assistance to each renter household. 2. Mendel Fischer, owner of Mazal LLC, meet directly with Northern Village tenants to negotiate fair compensation for the harm they have experienced. NORTHERN VILLAGE TENANTS DESERVE BETTER! These families should NOT have to pay the price for Mazalโ€™s neglect. They deserve safe housing, accountability, and meaningful support from the leadership elected to represent them. ๐Ÿ–ค PLEASE WEAR BLACK IN SOLIDARITY WITH NORTHERN VILLAGE TENANTS! SHOW UP. STAND TOGETHER. MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD! #TTGSTL #NorthernVillage #HousingJustice #TenantRights #HousingIsAHumanRight

In coalition with Black-led organizations, we have issued a response to the NAACP regarding its report on the City Justice Center. Among a few takeaways, our response not only cautions against jail expansion, it corrects the misleading claims used to support the NAACPโ€™s argument. Read the full letter at the link in our bio.

While many of us were breathing a sigh of relief that the workweek was coming to an end, something terrible happened. Over 500 people held in St. Louis County jail and at least 19 children held in juvenile detention lost access to psychiatric care services, all because St. Louis County Council failed to pass Bill 172. The St. Louis County Department of Health is working hard to secure an emergency contract, but the County Council could hold an emergency meeting and pass Bill 172 to end this crisis now, and ensure continuity of service for another five years. People who are incarcerated are among the most vulnerable among us, and we need you to speak up, contact County Council members to demand that they hold an emergency meeting to pass Bill 172, and share with five friends and invite them to take action as well. For long-term advocacy, join the Care Not Cages campaign anchored by Action St. Louis, ArchCity Defenders, and Freedom Community Center. Comment below with "I demand mental health care!" to boost this post in the algorithm.
