Dance season is starting, and apparently I’m a dance mom and a cookier now. 😜💃🍪

Story time: My baby Willow has always loved to move, and last year we got our first little taste of the dance convention world. Then @boost1marketing asked me to create some dance cookies, which led us to discover @lbpschoolofdance…and here we are! Willow is officially a part of the Season 19 Junior Team, and we couldn’t be more excited for her first competition season—including @elevationontour. 💜

And a shoutout to @activ8dancecompany on a successful Season 7! Hopefully we’ll see you out on the dance floor again this season. 🪩✨

✨Chicago I Recap✨
All we can say is wow. AYA Chicago was the perfect way to kick off our tour season. Every dancer came in with the best energy, the most positivity, and ready to embrace the AYA experience. We are so grateful to have spent time with such incredible humans. Wish we could rewind and do it all again because it was a dream but until next time…… Activation Complete 🖤

❤️‍🩹 RECOVERY ❤️‍🩹

Trying to share more choreo from Szn 6! I can’t even lie, this was one of my favorite solos to create this season. This is what I would call a perfect song. The music was found by my boyfriend - he actually helps me select music every season for choreography! Anyway, he played it for me and I ran it on repeat for about 2 weeks straight. I was instantly connected. Rose Bett’s voice is stunning, the melodies, the quality of her inflections, the crescendo, the lyrics and storytelling, I mean, what more can you ask for? Once I heard it, I knew it was the song for this dancer.

I think we’ve all been through difficult times, no matter what chapter of life you’re in, and this felt like a piece that can be relatable to anyone. Recovering, or coming back from whatever it is that brought you down, can feel unstable, scary, lonely and uncertain, but there’s always hope and you just have to look inward, take that leap, trust you’ll find yourself again, and don’t let anyone stop you from making progress on your own terms.

@nicoledanekk - you are such a beautiful dancer and storyteller, and I’m so incredibly proud of how you allowed yourself to find your own story in the lyrics and movement and just be vulnerable. So insanely proud of your growth and I’ll always remember this as a special piece with you. ✨

💐🤍 THE FLOWERS 🤍💐

I’m so insanely proud of this piece. Wow. These 2 dancers have been with Activ8 since the beginning. They are founding members, and season 6 felt like the right time to push ourselves into the deep end and start competing in the elite category. Knowing that, I wanted to create something that would stand out and be intriguing. I’ve always been a fan of Regina Spektor, and the moment I heard this song, I knew it was the perfect challenge for these two because the music is so dynamic and I LOVE spooky things, so I leaned into a concept that married the two.

I’ve heard so many interpretations of this piece 🤣 which I love, some people had no idea what was happening, and others created narratives that I hadn’t even thought of myself and added more depth to the story! In so many words, they are spirits that come back to life for one night (imagining it was on Halloween), and in the first half they are confused, sad and heavy, but as they reach the second half of the piece, they start to enjoy themselves and have a little more fun since this moment is fleeting. Regina’s music has always inspired me over the years and this song will forever have a special place in my heart alongside the moments watching these 2 perform on stage.

I don’t like to put stock into awards because they’re incredibly subjective, but I am truly proud that several different judging panels saw something special in our piece. The Flowers placed consistently in the elite category top 10 at four competitions receiving first overall at WCTE, a visionary award, 1st in contemporary category and a coveted ID Icon throughout the season.

So much love to @itzel17dp @ava_marcus215 for taking a risk with me and trying something out of the box. My ideas only have meaning and weight when you bring them to life, and I’m so grateful and proud of what you two accomplished with this piece! And thank you for putting up with a costume that smelled like coffee grounds because I needed them to look earthy. ✨ ON TO SZN 7!

✨ So proud of my daughter, Madelyn, for her amazing performance with Activ8 Dance Company at Golf Mill this past Saturday! 💃🎄 She and all the dancers brought so much energy, passion, and holiday cheer to the stage.
