This is what our roots look like when they dance. On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, our traditions took over the Bok rooftop. The cumbia and currulao of Colombia, the Rueda de Casino of Cuba, La Bruja of Veracruz, and the spirit of Sinaloa, until 420+ guests were no longer watching. They were dancing. 💃🏽🕺🏾 The music, movement, and memory our families carry across borders: it’s the same belonging every patient finds when they walk through the doors of Puentes de Salud. Gracias to @nuuxakun, @colombia_mi_corazon_es_tuyo, @treintaytres_de, and @estilodancestudio for bringing our traditions to life. 🙌🏽 🎥: @activatestories 🎶: Cumbia Mexicana (Instrumental) by Frontera Bugalú Turn the sound up 🔊 and tag someone who was out on that dance floor! 👇🏽 #BridgesToOurRoots #PuentesDeSalud #IndigenousPeoplesDay #LatinoPhilly #Folklore

A story on a screen can carry us into someone else’s world, make visible what might otherwise go unseen, and create space for people to recognize something of themselves in one another. This year, we are honored to offer a program of Movement Memory Shorts on Saturday 10/3, and a special engagement and outdoor screening of Louis Massiah’s 1987 film, The Bombing of Osage Avenue, presented with @cinespeak on 10/4! Come watch, reflect, and connect with these important stories of Philly and the region’s communities, as we push forward towards a future where today’s marginalized communities have the freedom to tell, preserve, and experience their own histories on their own terms. 📅 October 3-4 📍FACTS Charter School & Washington Square 🎟️ Details and registration at PeoplesMediaRecord.com/Camp

A healthy democracy depends on communities having the power to tell their own stories. We’re proud to announce more than $4.3 million in grant renewals supporting 44 Greater Philadelphia organizations and projects advancing community-led media, storytelling, and narrative strategies for social change. At a time when funding for Black- and Brown-led organizations continues to decline, more than $3.4 million (over 80%) of this year’s renewal grants were awarded to BIPOC-led organizations. Congratulations to our grantee-partners! 🎉 Your work continues to contribute to a more informed, connected, and just Greater Philadelphia region. 🔗 See link in our bio to learn more #narrativeshift #thisiswhatdemocracylookslike #communitymedia #narrativepower #philanthropywithpurpose

A snippet from Philly Rumba, a film I edited, premiering tomorrow @blackstarfest! Weaving together six decades of archives, the 25 min short documents Philadelphia’s vibrant and ever-evolving rumba community. It was an enormous pleasure and editorial challenge to try to capture the magic of these gatherings — in homes, parks, stages, basements, festivals, and galleries. So grateful to the team for including me in this act of cultural preservation, and if you’re in Philly I hope you catch a screening!
