Does a 32” fork actually need more offset?

Peter Verdone is a real geometry tinkerer, and his thinking around 32” fork offset makes a lot of sense. A larger front wheel creates more trail when head angle and fork offset stay the same. That is why Verdone ends up with significantly more offset for 32” than for 29” if the goal is to keep trail and steering behaviour more comparable. @intend_bc is interesting in that context. The Samurai 32 has 48 mm offset fully extended and around 46 mm at sag, while the Edge 32 is at 49 mm. The first Samurai 32 forks were still very closely related to the 29” version, with the extra height on the early forks even achieved through extended dropouts. That could explain why the offset is still relatively close to what we know from current 29” forks. It does not automatically mean that this will be the ideal value for 32” in the long term. Simon Metzner from @actofive_cycles also wants to experiment with different offsets on his 32” I-Train.

I would expect that once we start seeing 32” forks designed completely from scratch, larger offsets will become more common. Whether that ends up being 52, 55 or even more millimetres still has to be proven in practice. When people ask me how 32” rides, whether it feels too big or whether it is even necessary, my answer is pretty simple: I get on the bike, feel comfortable, and after five minutes I basically forget that I am riding 32” wheels. Even when climbing slowly, the tendency of the bars to flop to the side surprisingly does not feel worse to me than on a 29er. Still, I would really like to try a fork with more offset and see whether that effect can be reduced even further.

And when Peter starts thinking about things like this, he is surprisingly often right. It feels like he is always five steps ahead of where things currently are. Crazy guy. Thanks, @peterverdone , for thinking about this stuff and sharing it!

What if ACTOFIVE made an E-Bike Frame?

That's what we had to ask ourselves as electric assistance has undeniably reshaped modern mountain biking.

As bike obsessives and designers, we couldn't ignore this shift - so we engineered a modular, precision-machined CNC platform powered with next-generation electric assistance by the @maxon_bikedrive AIR-S system (Switzerland).

And we haven't forgotten non-assisted riders: we developed the platform to also fit a @pinion.eu gearbox incl. Smart.Shift and belt drive for pure, human-powered adventures. Both systems share the same frame and interface.

What if @actofive_cycles made an e-bike frame?

In fact, they are working on an e-bike frame and they’d love to hear your opinion, so they’re sharing the news now, while they’re in the process.

I think the most striking feature is the fact that you can run this frame with a @maxon_bikedrive Air S motor or a Pinion gearbox (no motor). If you go for the motor, you can choose between the 400 and 600 Wh batteries. If you choose the Pinion gearbox, you can use the downtube to store two bottles, or tools, jackets etc. The battery will be removable, so you could also get two 400 Wh batteries and swap them between rides.

Actofive is planning two versions: a Enduro version with 170 mm rear travel (225 x 65 mm shock) and a Trail version with 150 mm rear travel (205 x 55 mm shock).

Of course, the frame will be 100% CNC machined from billet 7075-T6 aluminium.

Thanks to the Adjustable Ride Technology (ART°), there will be five different geometry settings:

29” standard
29” long
Mullet standard
Mullet long
Super Mullet (32” / 29”)
