It's going to take a few days for my brain to settle from all the fierce sharings at last nights kick-off global London launch of the 'ACT UP at 40 - Celebrating Resistance and Demanding Healthcare for All Calendar' @advocacyacademy 'Archiving as Activism' 'Decriminialise drugs now' 'Harm reduction for all' 'The power of creative direct action' and so many more potent gems were shared by our brilliant speakers. But for now I will leave you with a picture of two favourite combabes of mine - Alex reading the calendar tribute from @actup.ar and @jonathanblake4921 reading Larry Kramer's initial rousing speech which began @actupny on March 10th 1987 - "Plague! We are in the middle of a fucking plague!" Now what are we gonna do about it?" - a fusing of two of my favourite wise and brilliant raging jews. Whilst we wait for ACT UP artivists @brixtondan for the pictures and @josephwilsonfilms and for the video please support @v1v13443 crowdfunder as part of ACT UP's overarching 'Fund Healthcare Not Warfare' movement. Yet AIDS is still killing. Cuts to international aid will lead to more than six million additional, preventable deaths by 2029. In France, more than half of migrants living with HIV contracted the virus after arriving in the country. Trans women are 66 times more likely to be living with HIV than the general population. In French prisons, HIV prevalence is six to ten times higher than in the general population. The 2030 target will not be met. C’est l’histoire dans l’Histoire. La photo dans les photos. Alors je ne veux pas reprendre les propos du texte, mais raconter une petite histoire. Je suis infirmier en soins intensifs de cardiologie, je suis diplômé depuis deux ans. Je sais le risque que je prends, parfois, à recapuchonner une aiguille, c’est-à-dire à remettre l’aiguille dans son capuchon. Alors qu’à l’Institut, les formateurs nous prescrivent de ne pas le faire, diplômés, nous le faisons en rigolant des risques. Cette nuit-là, j’administre un anticoagulant à un patient, je fais le geste interdit et je me pique, c’est un accident d’exposition au sang, un AES. Je tremble, une goutte de sueur roule dans mon dos, traverse ma colonne vertébrale, je sais très bien le risque. Je ne connais pas le statut virologique du patient devant moi. Je ne lui dis pas que je viens de me piquer. Je tente, tant bien que mal, de ne pas lui montrer le malaise qui m’ébroue. J’ai chaud, j’ai froid. J’ai peur de l’agakoko, la petite bête. Tant de gens meurent à cause du SIDA, phase terminale de l’infection au VIH. Je sors de la chambre du patient, je me dirige vers une collègue, lui raconte que je viens de me piquer. Elle me dit « Trempe ton doigt dans du Dakin. Ne fais pas saigner. Il faut prélever le patient. Et toi aussi. Je vais te le faire si tu es d’accord. » Je dis que je suis un abruti, je n’ai pas fait attention, j’ai fait le malin et c’est bien fait pour moi. Ma collègue ajoute « Ne t’en fais pas, au pire, tu seras sous anti-rétroviral pendant un mois. » Alors ma collègue prélève le patient en lui expliquant la problématique, il dit : « Ne vous inquiétez pas, je n’ai pas la maladie. » Je souffle, je ne risque rien. J’ai eu peur d’être séropositif. La dictibilité et l’entendabilité. Information = pouvoir. « Les médicaments sont au Nord, les malades sont au Sud. » @beataumubyeyimairesse - La solidarité des ébranlés. Ce texte a foudroyé mon cœur. Why this calendar is important (and fabulous). @dvdrobinson , an early member of @actupny and ACT UP/Golden Gate, said the project could help inspire further campaigning. “I find the ‘ACT UP at 40’ calendar deeply moving. AIDS activism – and healthcare activism more broadly – is needed as much as ever, and this calendar is a beautiful tool for inspiring more of it,” he said. The calendar also documents the contributions of local groups, including @actup.ar @actup_paris and New York’s ACT UP Latina/o Caucus. The latter brought HIV/AIDS education into Latino communities through translated information, grassroots outreach and public events, including the Puerto Rican Day Parade. Writer and broadcaster @alixfox said the anniversary came amid continuing challenges around access to treatment, including the price of lenacapavir and the relationship between pharmaceutical companies and patients. “ACT UP’s 40th year is a birthday, with so very much to celebrate. ⬛️ Hélène Hazera est morte à 74 ans. Avec elle disparaît une voix, une plume, une liberté. Reste une histoire. Pas seulement la sienne : un morceau de notre histoire LGBTQIA+, politique et populaire, faite de colères, de désirs et de libertés arrachées. Hélène avait choisi très tôt de ne pas se cacher. Au début des années 1970 : le FHAR, les Gazolines, la contre-culture. On ne parlait pas encore d’inclusion ou de visibilité. Il fallait être là, prendre la rue et la parole, bousculer l’ordre moral. Elle commence sa transition en 1973. Les portes se ferment. Elle voulait faire du cinéma ; après sa transition, son école ne veut plus d’elle. Mais Hélène avance. En 1978, elle entre à Libération. Elle écrit sur la culture, la musique, la chanson. Puis sa voix passe par France Culture. Elle aime les artistes, les livres, les mots, et refuse d’être réduite à sa transidentité. Puis il y a le sida. Les traitements, les amis qui meurent. Hélène rejoint Act-up Paris et se bat pour les personnes trans et les travailleuses du sexe, celles qu’on oublie même parmi les oubliés. Réduire Hélène à ce qu’elle a subi serait passer à côté d’elle. Il y avait son humour, son insolence, son goût immense pour la chanson. Sa disparition résonne aujourd’hui, alors que les personnes trans sont à nouveau désignées, caricaturées, transformées en bataille politique. Comme si elles venaient d’apparaître. La vie d’Hélène raconte exactement le contraire. Elle était là il y a cinquante ans. Elle vivait, écrivait, aimait. Elle rappelle que rien n’a été donné. Les droits et la possibilité de vivre au grand jour ont été arrachés par des gens qui ont refusé de se taire. #HélèneAzera, elle, n’a jamais demandé la permission. À l’occasion du documentaire « Hélène, trésore transnationale », elle disait son bonheur qu’il reste quelque chose d’elle après sa mort. Il restera ses mots, sa voix, ses colères, ses chansons. Et cette réponse, lorsqu’on lui demande si, derrière tous ses combats, le véritable moteur de sa vie était l’amour : «Absolument.» Une femme qui voulait vivre, écrire, aimer et être aimée. Merci Hélène. Pour la plume, le mégaphone, l’insolence. Et pour les chemins ouverts aux autres.
