Almost 10 years with my first congas in NZ. Hundreds of hours, lots of gigs, and they wore every story on their skin. They carried my rhythm for many years. It was my turn to carry them. Later on Maestro @mfuentesdrum told me those drums are gold, don’t let them go.

People told me it was time to swap them. I wasn’t ready to let them go although that camouflage wasn’t my style. So I stripped them back, painted them, failed 😅, and then carved every scale, one by one.

Their comeback? The salsa ball at Auckland Town Hall with the orchestra 🔥
Same soul, new life.
Thanks to my good friend Fide Pimentel from @acusticalatina for the hands, the laughs and the time on this project🙏 .

CALAVERAS & ALEBRIJES
A Día de Muertos Costume Party🔥🎉

Join us at El Origen for a special evening honouring one of Mexico’s most meaningful cultural traditions: Día de Muertos.

The night begins with memory, culture and love. Bring a photograph of a loved one who is no longer with us and place it on our Remembrance Altar, where we’ll honour the lives of those who remain forever in our hearts.

Enjoy colourful Día de Muertos face painting and come dressed for our Costume Party! Whether you’re a Catrina or an alebrije, show us your creativity for a chance to win a prize for the best Día de Muertos costume. 🏆

As the night unfolds, remembrance turns into celebration.

From 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM, experience Mariachi New Zealand live: the country’s only 10-piece mariachi band, bringing the passion and emotion of Mexican music to the stage.

After 11:00 PM, DJ Don Torres takes over with Latin hits to keep everyone dancing! 🔥💃🏽
