The Crooked Studio invites you to “May you read me like a poem”, with Ada M. Patterson, Gamze Öztürk, Jeltje Schuurmans, Luca Calderó, and Zela Odessa Palmer.

Opening hours: September 19, 20, 26, 27: 12.00 - 17.00
Special reading by Luca Calderó on September 27, 15.00.

May you read me like a poem frames the body as a universe — stratified, exposed, and quietly unyielding. The exhibition interrogates bodily discomfort as it’s molded by society — how we navigate the systems we’re born into, and where our own bodies feel inadequate against the ideals we’re held to. Drifting through an introspective space loaded with autobiographical work, the artists render identity, desire, and loss into a shared, subconscious vocabulary.

Curated by Rayne Geurtsen.

Ada Maricia Patterson is an artist, writer and educator based between Barbados, London and Amsterdam. She works with drawing, masquerade, music, performance, poetry, textiles and video, considering what it means to change under duress and what life can look like under existential threat. Patterson is an alumna resident of the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten, Amsterdam.

Luca Calderó (Barcelona, 1999) is an artist and researcher. The backbone of their practice is writing, which they understand as embodied and expanded, taking the form of performance, text, video, or installation. They are currently researching vulnerabilty—the body’s capacity to be wounded—as a space of relation to the transcendent, a field they refer to as Somatomysticism.

Calderó studied Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona and are currently pursuing the Master of Artistic Research at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, with the support of the Fundación Botín Art Grant 2025–2026. Their work has received the Art Jove Producció Award (2023) and the Barcelona Crea Grant (2024), and has been exhibited at Sala d’Art Jove (Barcelona, 2023), Punt WG (Amsterdam, 2024), Paradise (The Hague, 2025), and the Felicia Fuster Foundation (2026). What does it mean to create as a trans femme artist in a world that so often demands explanation, performance, or resilience just to exist?

From 17–26 April, the Fund’s Exchanges programme—made possible through the support from the City of Amsterdam—partnered with @losanglescollective to bring together trans artists from across networks for a 10-day interdisciplinary gathering rooted in collaboration, care, and artistic exchange.

As part of the public programme at Domo, Seed Awardees Lucrezia, Princesa Hardcore, and Okyanus Çağrı Çamcı came together in conversation with Los Angles to reflect on artistic autonomy, survival, visibility, tokenisation, and the realities of working within systems that continue to marginalise trans creatives.

Moving between personal experience and broader structural questions, the discussion explores the pressures of visibility, the exhaustion of constantly being asked to represent or explain oneself, and the importance of reclaiming storytelling as a form of agency. Throughout the conversation, the artists return to the necessity of community — not only as support, but as a condition for sustaining creative practice and imagining different futures together.

At its core, the talk is a powerful reflection on resilience, collective care, and the importance of creating spaces where trans artists can exist and work on their own terms.

We just wrapped up our first Exchanges of the year!

In collaboration with trans-femme led collective Los Angles, we brought together three Seed Awardees from the Fund’s global network—@princesahardcore, @lucr3z1a_, & @okyanuscagricamci—and three artists from the collective’s local network—@aron.saxe,@rrrrrrri7a, & @ada_patterson—for a 10-day programme of exchange, collaboration, and shared reflection.

The programme kicked off with studio days at @productiehuis.nowhere, where the three artist pairs worked alongside one another across disciplines and mediums, seeing where their practices intersect and spark new collaborative works that were shown at the end of the programme’s public event.

As part of the Exchange, the visiting artists also spent time immersing themselves in Amsterdam’s art scene first-hand. They were welcomed at @burostedelijk and @rijksakademie for guided tours where they could meet with the institutions’ curators and teams, during which conversations were sparked about sustainable artistic infrastructures and continued international collaboration.

The week also created moments for public exchange. On 22 April, the programme featured a panel talk at @domo.culture, where the participating artists and Los Angles’ founders reflected on the marginalisation of trans communities, the politics of hypervisibility, and how to better support trans creatives in today’s contemporary moment.

The Exchange culminated in a public art showcase at @studio.wieman, where the three artist pairs shared their collaborative studio work alongside local peers through visual art, poetry readings, performance, fashion, and a celebratory party featuring @jasonvgalen, @princess.vineyard, and @youngw0man.

From 17 to 26 April, the Fund’s Exchanges programme partners up with Los Angles Collective, the Amsterdam-based, transfemme-run collective focused on showcasing and nurturing trans talent.

Exchanges is the Fund’s platform for creative cross-pollination: it connects Prince Claus Awardees with Amsterdam’s cultural landscape while building long-lasting relationships across the city’s diverse artistic scenes.

The programme brings together three Seed Awardees from the Fund’s network—Princesa Hardcore, Lucrezia, & Okyanus Çağrı Çamcı—and three artists through the Collective’s network—Aron Saxe, Rita Bifulco, & Ada Maricia Patterson—for studio days, immersive art visits, and two public events.

This 10-day interdisciplinary Exchange nurtures trans talent through Los Angles Collective’s “T4T” ethos, bringing six artists together in a programme rooted in collaboration and community.
