Overwhelmed with the love and support shown for “Layers v1”. This was my first solo show, and a concept that I’ve been working on for some time, so to see it come to life in the way it did has been so rewarding.

This was important for me to not just share athletes’ stories & perspectives, but also connect it to my own journey and experience, as well as the experiences that most artists & athletes today face.

In this industry, most people just want to associate with you based on what you can do for them. When you don’t hold a certain position anymore or have a certain follower count attached, you aren’t heard. Our ideas are often manipulated until we are deemed “worthy” by social standards. It’s corny and disrespectful - but a sad reality.

This experience showed me a different side to this game many of us are playing, and it was healing to be able to see what true support and partnership looks like. It was healing to see how community can be bridged through art. I don’t do things for validation, but in this situation I’ve never felt more validated as an artist. I am reinvigorated with purpose and passion. I am inspired by all the individuals who showed love and came out to support.

Just like clothes have layers, so do people, so do athletes and so does art. I encourage you to peel back the layers before you judge others, and to support and believe in your friends and inner circle without anything to gain. Most importantly, believe and trust in your own ideas.
