I had an excellent evening bumping shoulders with some of the best writers last night at the “Vinyl Vandals” art show at @orchard_st_paint_supply in the heart of the always gritty and photogenic L.E.S. (I don’t care how many $10 boba tea shops they try to cram in there per block, it’s still gritty!).

The DJs had it locked in (that @101apparel Herbie Hancock “Headhunters” shirt made my night!)..but the audio stars of the evening were on the wall. I think I have about 80% of the sleeves in my stacks unadorned, so it was nice to see after the fact collaborators give them the graf update! I got to see some sleeves by @qzarism , @freshpaintnyc , @gorey and so many others. It was great seeing a Homesick piece you wouldn’t need a crane and wrecking ball to take home too!! I also picked up a “greatest visual hits” color zine of some of the sleeves from past shows I’m sure I’ll be thumbing through for days.

Eternal gratitude to @kookoneforever for the heads up / invite…I owe ya one! These are the things, despite having one foot tentatively in the internet ocean, that I usually find out about three days after. Get out there, see some art, go home, make some art, take your art outside, eat some good food. Remember to sleep now and again.

Ants Invasion

Name-changing
Was hiding
Submerging
Re-inventing
Within the tribe
That welcomed
That we became

Belonging
And unbelonging
All at once

Shlosberg
Schlossberg
SKum
Gluck
Hazard
Jay

Immigrants do it
Escapees do it
Punk rock misfits do it

Scrawled cardboard
Labels on lengths
Of string
Round necks
At docks

The forged passport
That affords
Accord

When “all aboard“
Becomes a double-edged
Sword

Refugees arriving
In patchwork dinghy’s

A safe passage
Through
To
Some where
Else

When arrival means —
Not horizons
Dreamed —
But
Fresh fights

New terrors

A startling
Stumbling
Stifling
Start

So unplug the jukebox and do us all a favor
That music's lost its taste so try another flavor
