Ask a woman physician if she has consulting experience and she’ll often say no, not formally.

Then she’ll mention the solution she piloted in residency, the interviews she ran, and the research she supported for a PI.

Michelle Higginson heard this over and over while building Inlightened, and her answer was always the same: “You did these things, you just didn’t get paid for it.”

Our new episode with Michelle is live now. She talks with Dr. Adam Brown and Dr. Lara Zibners about paying clinicians for what they know, why founders need more than one friendly opinion, and what it was like to start acquisition diligence the day before her C-section.

“I know a guy at a big hospital who loves it.”

Dr. Adam Brown has heard that from a lot of founders. Then he starts asking questions and finds out the guy is a golf buddy who was never going to call the product an ugly baby.

A friend’s thumbs up won’t get you adopted, into a pilot, through procurement, or paid.

Our next guest built a company around fixing this. Michelle Higginson, co-founder of Inlightened, joins Adam and Dr. Lara Zibners on the next episode of Unstable Vitals. Dropping 8/13 at 8 am ET.

On the new episode of Unstable Vitals, author Audrey Ward talks about the men who wrote to her for The Waiting Room. They faced low sperm counts, shame, and other things. When they opened up, people often joked about it. Many didn't want their full names in the book.

What surprised her most was how many men struggled simply watching their partners go through it, unable to fix it.

We also get into:
- Clinical language like "spontaneous abortion" and "incompetent cervix," and why it needs to change
- The economics of IVF: add-ons, prepaid packages and who gets options
- What to say (and what not to say) when someone tells you they're struggling to conceive

Who actually pays for healthcare innovation to reach a patient? It’s not the doctor and it’s not typically the patient in whole. And that disconnect is exactly why most healthcare products never make it to market.

In this clip, Adam Brown breaks down the stakeholder problem that kills healthcare innovation before it starts. Most healthcare startups and medical device companies build for the patient — but the patient isn’t the one typically paying. Insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid, and hospitals each have their own payment models, evidence requirements, and procurement processes. If a founder doesn’t understand stakeholders such as the patient, the doctor, the payer, and the hospital, then the product may fail.

Menopause is not a single Tuesday with one hot flash.

In this clip from Unstable Vitals, Dr. Lara Zibners describes what it's actually like: roughly 30 years in an estrogen-deficient state, with bone density dropping and heart attack risk climbing the whole way through. Not a moment, a decades-long health transition most doctors were never trained to manage.

If you haven't caught the full episode yet, or read the white paper behind it, the conversation is still just as relevant as the day it dropped.

"Suck it up, buttercup."

That was the standard of care Dr. Adam Brown was taught in medical school for menopause symptoms, while hormone therapy was avoided almost entirely because of a single misread study.

In this clip from the newest Unstable Vitals, Adam and Lara unpack how a trial got misinterpreted, why HRT use plummeted even among doctors who knew the data didn't support it, and what it cost an entire generation of women who went without appropriate care as a result.

This is exactly the kind of gap their new white paper is trying to close in medical education before it happens to the next generation of doctors and patients.

New episode of Unstable Vitals is live 🎙️

Yesterday, Dr. Adam Brown and Dr. Lara Zibners released their white paper, "The Business Case for Integrating Menopause Education into Medical School Curriculum", and in this episode, they break down why it exists, who they wrote it with, and why closing this gap matters for doctors, patients, and investors alike.

Only 6-7% of doctors feel adequately trained in menopause care. That's a gap that touches 51% of the population and costs the healthcare system billions.
