went to maine last week where, as is required by law, i made zucchini-corn fritters for my friends while in a wet bathing suit. we ate so much sour cream which is not government-mandated but highly encouraged. also saw a lot of art. if one more coworker tells me “glad to have you back” i am going to fake my own death

“This is because exhibitions are not, for the most part, designed to encourage you to spend a long time in front of art works so much as move you through to the gift shop. But Higgs understands that to have a meaningful experience with a painting requires no technical expertise but only time, an open mind and, ideally, a chair”.

Salon at Lismore Castle Arts is open every day 11am - 6pm until 25 October.

There can be few people who have done more than @matthewhiggs2015 to support contemporary artists and so we feel very lucky to have him curating this years show at Lismore castle. Great visit to Mark Ibson’s Blacksmith’s Shop Galley in Bishop Wilton today. Really great work by Alan Gummerson, @mark_ibson @adamkeay @timothy_.morrison and many others.

Some photos I took recently from the latest opening from @mark_ibson The Blacksmith’s Shop Gallery. (Apologies to all the artists I haven’t tagged - I didn’t know your handles ✌️)

The gallery will next be open this bank holiday weekend if ya fancy a look and explore.

It’s a wonderful space celebrating the freedom and true equality of creativity.

And I think it’s best said by this extract from the website:

“Situated in Bishop Wilton, at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds, the Blacksmith’s Shop Gallery is a pioneering artistic venture founded by Mark Ibson and driven by the simple belief that art is for all.

This ethos is perhaps best captured by the concept of ‘Outsider Art’, in which the gallery specialises; art produced by those often without strictly conventional artistic backgrounds, but nonetheless captured by the same inspiration and artistic vision that unites all creative minds.”
