Back in May, just as I was slowly building up my training base, @adamwilliambow and I attempted his self-supported 100-mile course “Pain is My Friend”. Turns out pain was not friend, but more on that in another video. Here’s Week 6 of training for @rimtoriver 100!

I know I say this every month, but May was truly packed! It was a different kind of packed in which several of my daily habits slipped - mostly I didn’t read or journal nearly as much as I would’ve liked to. But with that said, May was awesome! It was a month full of celebration, from @trudyaroth’s birthday to @jquigleywv’s and @clayander03’s, MTG for @nursquatch’s, and all the way to Colorado to attempt a 100-mile run with @adamwilliambow for his birthday. I also visited Pittsburgh for @thisisallmine’s graduation celebration and of course had to make a trip back to Hollidaysburg for @benjaminkahnesq and Ginger’s wedding. This month was a rollercoaster of literal and emotional highs and lows, including going skydiving on a Monday and filing the last of my divorced papers Friday, before watching to dear friends get married on a Saturday. It was a month full of running and walking, as I started my fourth and hopefully second successful attempt at the 1000km Great Virtual Race Across Tennessee (although it’s actually “Along the Trace” this year), logging nearly 25% of the kilos needed with Luna of course, plus @dayj_lo, @ryankidwiler and @letsdiscodown, and some hiking with Quigley and @mmahar1. I also tacked on a quick @rocketfuelstudios work trip to Pittsburgh with @daviskinville and @markgazica. And to perfectly cap off the month with a high and a low, I finally got to see @thebackseatlovers live with @katie_roemer, only to spend the final day of May bathing Luna because she has fleas 😂 oh what a beautiful life.

365 seconds from 2022! I don’t expect most of y’all to sit through six minutes of nonsense, but I enjoyed rewatching it so I figured I’d share it anyway. 2022 was not the year I expected it to be. Pretty much nothing went according to plan, but that’s what makes life interesting. There are far too many of you beautiful people in the video to tag, but it was a pleasure spending time with each of you last year.

November!! Started off with the matriarch’s birthday! Can you believe @1helenanders is 90?! Shortly after I prepped for then ran @rimtoriver 100 in 27:40, which wouldn’t have been possible without help from @trudyaroth @artduude @ava.roth @adamwilliambow and @jasongilmore412! Came back to the eastern panhandle for some karaoke with @gorenzo. Next up was a location scout in Baltimore with @daviskinville @markgazica @rocketfuelstudios. Then back to WV for live performances of @datta.wv and my parents! Then a week after the race, one of my pinky toenails came off completely! Just before thanksgiving, I went up to Pittsburgh to meet @erikdouds - we attempted to bike from PGH to DC but the weather derailed us a bit. You can check out my Strava for more detail recaps of each day. Luckily we made it back to WV for thanksgiving with my family, @clayander03 and other extended family! And while Ava was in town, we got together again to celebrate her Gotcha Day! And of course, this month was fueled by @siblingcoffeeroasters and included plenty of time with Luna! 😊 this month both flew by and crawled. I’d say I’m looking forward to a slower December, but it doesn’t look to be any less crazy at this point 😅

October! Started the month off with Ironman Barcelona! After that, I had two weeks in Barcelona with @artduude @trudyaroth and @ava.roth where we explored the city and saw all the major sights! Then I had one week left by myself and I ran a ton! I attempted to get the FKT from Barcelona to Montserrat but quit cause I was worried about dehydration (more on that in a post to come). I was very excited to get home and be reunited with my dog Luna. Since getting back to the USA, I’ve squeezed in some more running and prep ahead of Rim to River this weekend, as well as a quick trip to Pittsburgh for some @rocketfuelstudios shoots. October was definitely a unique month for me this year since most of it was in Barcelona, but it was a fun one.

May! One second from every day. Started it off in Florida with a visit from @ava.roth after I wrapped up some work down in Naples. Then I headed home to WV for a few days to celebrate @trudyaroth's birthday. Next up was a short trip to Asheville to crew for @ryankidwiler and @letsdiscodown at the Hellbender 100. Back in hollidaysburg for some time with @hanharley and our pets, as well as plenty of work and some ironman training. We fostered 4 newborn kittens for a week or two before getting them old enough to go into proper kitten foster care. Got to catch up with @adamwilliambow and climbed a bit with @benjaminkahnesq. Ended the month of with a trip the the New for some bouldering with Ben and Ginger. Finally, headed back to Pittsburgh to start the first production sprint on another @rocketfuelstudios TV show! Oh, also found out that my Subaru was totaled, which was one of the reasons that I got the bus up and running again!

October was jam packed with weddings and work! Started off with a trip to Salem, MA with @hanharley to photograph a wedding! Then to Pittsburgh for @bearded_dop and @shelbyroseee's wedding. And finally to WV/MD for @carlyanders91 and @matt.jaso's wedding! In between the wedding, there were lots of rocketfuel editing a production days, a fair amount of running, and a handful of trips to the vet with our cat Tonseth.

Last nights launch of the F: CLASSIC Loopwheel made Collection at @biroshouten and my exhibit inspired by it all. It’s been about 8 years since I’ve had an actual art show, so it was an amazing experience to create and collab with @culturement @birocompany to bring a collection of ideas and beliefs to life through my art. This is a series of paintings reflecting on the relationship of time, culture, death and life. We explore these themes through the elements of water and hues of indigo that represent the Japanese denim and natural dying techniques used in organic fabric coloring along with the act of hands sewing and stitching together the stories and culture to pass down to next generations. When things are made with passion and crafted well, they outlast even the people themselves and that is something I truly believe many people and brands have forgotten over the years. @biroshouten believes in the three F’s, Fundamentals, Forever, Future, which is why all of their products are made in Japan by people who have mastered their craft and continue to do so to pass down the knowledge and quality and sustain their traditions and textiles. Creating items with the purpose of having that item for future generations to appreciate and use. Also the art touches upon the connections between destruction and creation, and how sometimes from the chaos and ashes, arises the most beautiful and thriving life forms. Some of these concepts really resonate with me and the passed year I’ve had so being able to paint it all out has been very cathartic and recharging.
