“Honestly, the best thing that’s happened to my life.”

That’s how Chris describes adaptive mountain biking.

He’s been riding a Bowhead for just over a year. He’s a member of the Forrest Mountain Bike Club and currently sits on the committee. One of his favourite trails is Steam Donkey, a blue flow trail at Forrest. In his words, it’s “super fun, super fast.”

For Chris, having adaptive bikes at Forrest opens doors. Not everyone has the funding or options to buy their own bike. Plenty of people travelling to Victoria can’t bring theirs on a plane. Having bikes there gives them the chance to get out on the tracks and into the bush, places that weren’t accessible before.

Getting started was simple too. Chris just messaged the club on Instagram and said he wanted to come ride, and they were all for it.

His advice? Reach out. Message Chris, message the Forrest Mountain Bike Club, or message us. Come ride these trails.

Know someone who’s always wanted to give adaptive mountain biking a go? Tag them below and send them this video.

Tall eucalyptus trees and ferns line the dirt tracks. The video mixes helmet-cam footage, riding shots and short pieces to camera where Chris talks about the club and the trails.
