If we paid more attention to accessibility, assistive technology could unlock the potential of thousands of artists!!!

I’m Fern, an artist with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT) and Porphyria. Weakness, numbness, and pain in my hands make holding an Apple Pencil exhausting, and a sketch that should take minutes can easily take hours.

With Guided Hands, I can create with less pain and fatigue. A sketch that would normally take me 2 hours took just 2 minutes.

Drawing doesn’t hurt like it used to. It’s really a taste of freedom🥹

I hope my art reminds someone that creativity should be accessible to everyone, and that the right tools can unlock potential that was always there 🫶♿️

Meet Fern, a bright and creative 20-year-old artist.

Fern has rare Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease and Porphyria, which cause severe weakness, numbness, and contractures in her hands and fingers—making holding and using an Apple Pencil for her art nearly impossible, or causing pain and fatigue within minutes. What should take moments can take hours.

Here’s what Fern shared after trying Guided Hands:

“The first time I used Guided Hands I didn’t know what to expect. With numbness and contractures in my hands and fingers, it’s never been easy for me to hold a pen or stylus, so drawing a simple design could take me hours.

When I started gliding over the tablet with Guided Hands, I could tell right away why so many people with dexterity issues find it helpful—it’s really a taste of freedom. Drawing didn’t hurt like it used to, and that is super motivating!” - Fern
