Dance City Festival Detroit is this weekend, and we are so proud of our students and alumni who are performing and presenting work! Next up is “Ghost of You”, choreographed by recent graduate Adari Torres. “Ghost of You” will be performed on the Rivera Court Stage on Friday, September 18th at 5 pm in the Rivera Court at the Detroit Institute of Arts!   #DanceCityFestivalDetroit #WayneStateDance #DanceatWayne #DanceinDetroit #DanceCityFestival     Dance City Festival Detroit is this weekend, and we are so proud of our students and alumni who are performing and presenting work! First up is “DESquamation” choreographed by Meghan O’Connor, performing Saturday, September 19th at 3 pm on the Summer Stage, outside of the Detroit Institute of Arts! “This work loosely explores the notion of control. It explores the many layers that are the human form: the layers shared, and those actively suppressed. Dance City Festival Detroit 2026 - Rivera Court 🗓️ September 18 at 5:00 p.m. & September 19 at 12:30 p.m. 📍DIA Rivera Court 🎟️ Tickets available at https://www.dancecityfestival.com/festival-tickets/rivera-court-stage-i-r6pzy Adari Torres - Adari Torres is a dancer and choreographer based in Detroit, Michigan. She studied at Noretta Dunworth School of Dance from 2005 to 2021, and later received her BFA from Wayne State University in 2025. Throughout her career, she has been involved in numerous projects and productions, with her choreography even traveling to places like Las Vegas, Florida, and San Diego. During her time at Wayne State University, Adari was also a member of the Dance Recruitment team. She has had the privilege of collaborating with both local and international artists, including Biba Bell, Dr. RAS Mikey Courtney, Jackie Nowicki, Hannah Anderson, Jessica Raijko, Crystal Frazier, Joshua L. Peugh, BAIRA, and Contra Tiempo, among others. Adari's unique style incorporates elements of Mexican American culture, community, personal stories, and ancestral heritage, making her a truly dynamic and diverse choreographer. Year 7. ❤️ What started as a job became so much more — lifelong friendships, unforgettable memories, and connections with dancers from all across the country. I’ve met so many incredible people and made friendships I’ll carry with me forever. So grateful for this journey and for a job that never feels like work. Truly the best job I could ever ask for. To my National Director thank you for always believing in me. To my other event managers thank you for always working with me. To all of my staff members thank you for making every show unforgettable for every dancer that touched our stage. To the show techs and people that aren’t seen in the warehouse thank you for always making sure we are equipped to run a good show. And to all the studios that I have met across the country thank you so much for spreading your love, passion and joy for dance with me on our stage. Here’s to 7 years of love, laughter, dance, and memories. ❤️ (sorry I could not tag everybody but I love you all just the same.)
