Our daughter Addison is now engaged to the love of her life, Jackson.

When Jackson asked Dave and I if he could propose I literally jumped up and down in the kitchen. Not because I get to help plan a wedding or see my girl as a beautiful bride. But because he and Addie have a friendship and relationship that will last. It’s built on friendship, communication, learning and growing. It’s built on a relationship that has naturally grown between all of us. The way Jackson loves his future siblings in law is beautiful. The way we can all joke around and just be ourselves, it’s a gift. The way they love Jesus and each other is a blessing.

I’ll have to look back at when Addie was fighting for her life, and I would post to a Caring bridge site. There was a heavy day that I wrote about and Dave and I walked hand in hand to Starbucks while Addie had wound care and they debreeded her burned skin. We prayed and talked about her future, even though we weren’t sure she would survive. One of the visions we described to each other was her wedding day. We envisioned her hands, and someone placing a ring on her left hand. And we asked God to heal her and bless her and give her a partner that would love her for her.

Fast forward 15 years and God wove it all together for good.

Dave and I snuck to Hawaii. And while Dave went to get the car, I stayed and I sat on our deck, and I prayed and I listened to How Great Thou Art (Addie’s favorite song while in the hospital) and I cried (happy tears) and had a moment of thanksgiving and praise. What a miracle. What a blessing. What a gift. God restored us. He restored her.

It did not come without struggles. But it came with lots of forgiveness, lots of faith, lots of clinging to God. Lots of checking in with self. Lots of communication. Lots of grace. Lots of listening to God and what He wanted us to do.

I am beyond grateful for this time in life, for my future son in law, for Addison Rebecca, and for the Joy that comes in the morning.

This is our morning!
