Art gallery in Chicago's River North District representing contemporary painting and sculpture.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Jeffrey Hirst recently completed a return residency at Ballinglen Arts Foundation, where he enjoyed making new work, meeting new friends, reconnecting with old ones, and exploring North Mayo by bicycle.

During his residency, Jeff focused on color carborundum prints exploring the interplay of organic shapes, geometric form, and meandering lines. He also created a series of Tetrapak prints that combine architectural structure with organic line work. In addition, he developed a new series of small acrylic paintings that will serve as inspiration for larger encaustic paintings when he returns to his Chicago studio.

Jeff says he always loves returning to Ballinglen and immersing himself in the landscape of North Mayo. Just as important, however, is the opportunity to spend time with the wonderful community surrounding the foundation. From fellow artists in residence and workshop participants to the generous and kind Ballinglen staff and the people of @addingtongallery Ballycastle, it is the people who make each visit so special. @jeffreyhirst @addingtongallery @artsmia #artresidency #ballinglenartsfoundation #ballinglenmuseumofart #ballinglenfellow

Some examples of my abstract works. Unfortunately, these works aren't understood in my country because our visual arts market focuses more on decorative works. For some reason, people can't seem to grasp what abstract painting really means or that abstract work is actually the hardest within the painting art... It's hard to capture a unique approach in abstract painting; it's not something you achieve by just splashing and scraping the paint like many artists do... In my abstract painting, you have to establish your technique and style so that what you create is truly yours... With my current works, I realize that after 50 years in the world of visual arts, I am doing real art. My previous works will also remain in art history as original works on a global scale, but my abstrac

It’s EXPO weekend in Chicago so I’m celebrating by doing an artist talk with my friend @teresawhitewings over @addingtongallery at 3pm on Saturday! We are both showing printmaking-adjacent, one-of-a-kind mixed media work in the gallery, at 704 N Wells in River North. Along with my petals and pollinators series of etchings on organic matter, we’ll be pulling out a few traditional prints and other ephemera. Here’s the PR: Teresa James & Deborah Maris Lader in conversation: Two printmakers talk about their parallel processes of reclaiming alternative materials to address the tactile and visual poetics of memory.
Stop on by to escape the bustle of Navy Pier with this intimate gathering of creatives. Free and open to the public. #chicagogalleries @chigallerynews #chicagoartevents #artisttalk #mixedmedia
