#lalibela Celebrate Ethiopian Orthodox Christmas in Lalibela, Ethiopia! 🇪🇹

On January 7 (Tahsas 29 in the Ethiopian calendar), the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ.

Lalibela, one of Ethiopia’s most remarkable spiritual and historical destinations, becomes a sacred gathering place for thousands of pilgrims who come to celebrate Christmas at the magnificent rock-hewn churches of St. Lalibela.

✨ What makes Christmas in Lalibela so special?

According to local tradition, Christmas in Lalibela is also associated with the birthday of King Lalibela, the visionary king who built these extraordinary rock-hewn churches.

Throughout the night and into the morning, priests chant sacred hymns, accompanied by the prayers and devotion of thousands of worshippers. The atmosphere is filled with faith, ancient traditions, spiritual music, and a deep sense of Ethiopian Orthodox heritage.
