If you would have asked me about this moment 3 years ago, I probably would have told you I didn’t think I’d be given the strength to get through another few years to make it to this point. Days were so heavy on me and there were moments when giving up seemed easier than continuing to push forward. Today I thank God for surrounding me by so many people who reminded me every single day that life is worth living and that I had so much to put back into this world.
Not only do I thank God but I thank my parents for always trusting me, for always loving me unconditionally, for every payment made in tight situations to make sure I had a life I enjoyed, for holding me tight every time I cried, for giving me the 30 minute long lectures about things I never thought would be relevant in my life, for giving me the opportunity to drive, for the opportunity to live, and for everything that has been done for me for 18 years. Having a father who filled a role for 17 years when he could have turned his back on me and gaining 2 bonus moms, and 2 more siblings has been my biggest blessing in life and I thank God every day to be lucky enough to experience that regardless of the circumstances it took to get there.
To my friends and my boyfriend, thank you for every laugh, every last minute plans to get me out of the house, thank you for laughing and crying, and thank you for loving me on my worst days. To the teachers who believed in me more than myself and understood that I had nothing to give some days, thank you.
This week as I graduate, I’m not just celebrating a diploma- I’m celebrating every obstacle I have had to overcome and all the people around me who helped me get here.
To the freshmen who is scared, to the sophomore struggling to fit in, to the junior struggling and stressing, from me to you, there’s more to life then the 4 walls your stuck in.
