august is a big grief month for me! always has been ever since i was a kid. & now it’s right around the corner. it’s always been a time where major shifts have occurred. people come into my life, people leave, major losses, major wins. but when you sit with yourself long enough sometimes you’re able to see that everything that happens to you can be a major shift if you let it be. basically: if i’ve ever loved you, i’ll love you forever. i think about you everyday and carry you with me everywhere i go. you’re in everything i’ll ever say, create and do. you’ll be with me when im doing laundry and with me when i take my kids to school one day. and in turn, who i am will stay with my friends, family and children forever. so in that way, you’ll be with them too. and in that way, you’ll live forever.

Blacque Anthologies Directed by Senior Fordham Theatre Design Student, Raina Williams, is opening February 19th!

Living in a hellscape of a world that we built brick by brick, these black actors will explore and demystify questions about what makes them who they are and the structures/experiences that have shaped them into the people they are today. This performance art piece will be entirely devised by the cast and interdisciplinary findings are encouraged (dance, singing, poetry, etc). It will consist of 3 sections: what the system is, our experiences within said system, and our reckoning with it today. Taking personal experiences into account, this performance is meant to save the burn of America’s misfortunes. This is not a piece about struggle, but yet, the diamond that comes out of the flame. What is left when we shed the layers of western, “normalized”, and conventional thought? Who are we without our labels? Do we seek reparations, understanding, a safe space, or merely for a listening ear? These are all questions this piece and the room I intend to create will grapple with. Something beautifully and authentically made, by us for us.
