ANNOUNCEMENT📣📣📣
WE HAVE PUBLISHED OUR FIRST RESEARCH PAPER ON BLACK WOMEN'S EXPERIENCE OF LATE DIAGNOSED ADHD!!!
This is such a huge milestone for me personally and @adhdbabes as an organisation.

I've always loved research. As a Psychology MSc graduate I've always wanted to platform the experiences of Black British people in the field.

Sadly, the research world has always felt quite mythical to me. You need to know the right people and say the right things. While I'd attempted to have my dissertations published in the past, the excessively elusive admin and gatekeeping was too much to hold as a lone neurodivergent person.
This research feels like a warm hug to the 28 year old me who gave up trying to get our voices heard.

What was extra beautiful about this research was it community centred in nature. Since @adhdbabes went public we have had numerous requests for research participation and often never hear from the researchers again.

As a community organisation leading on the research, we are speaking to people who remain part of our support system. Rather than extractive, it is led by lived experience and sustained safer spaces.

Please read, share and support! May this be the first of many works to diversify the literature on ADHD so our stories are no longer silenced. As well as more comunuty-led approaches to research, by us for us.

Thank you so much to the babes who shared so honestly and openly with us.💜
Thank you to my co-authors. 🤎

Guysssss, guess who got selected for the 2023 cohort of the @foundervine accelator course with @lloyds.bank !!!

I am sooo excited to join this cohort of amazing Black founders!

Meeting them last week was inspiring in and of itself, so I am really looking forward to learning together over the next two months. I have already learnt so much I need to implement from the first session by @claud_williams_
, never been in a workshop for two hours and maintained concentration like that 😂

Imposter syndrome really tried to reek its head at some points but I am softly reminding myself I deserve a seat on the table and was picked for a reason.

Time to make @adhdbabes sustainable so we can continue to serve our community💜

Wish me luck and concentration!

I’ve come to realize that the things that are hardest for me to talk about are the very things I need to grow through. 🌱With the entire world going virtual I was reminded more than ever of how difficult the little things have always been for me. Then, on June 5 of last year, I began my teaching journey as a 200hr yoga trainee with @schoolyogainstitute. I will never forget this day because 2 things that have shaped the very essence of my being seemed to virtually collide; it was my grandmother’s 90th birthday. It was also the day my childhood school reminded me (via Zoom) of how much trauma I’d suppressed. I always knew my experience as a black person in private school was different, but I never considered my ADHD experience to be equally as challenging. I spent 4 years not seeing a single other black female in a classroom with me but I’d spent much longer not seeing any black neurodiverse people sharing that same space.

I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 5 years old. I’ve been on nearly every stimulant on the market and have had to learn to navigate life not only as ‘the lone black girl’ but also the girl who couldn’t find anything meaningful to add to a conversation at lunch because she was so deeply in her head that the anxiety and fear of being rejected for saying something weird kept her lips glued shut. I thought I could never be perceived as smart or having anything of value to add to anything, simply because I’d been so socialized to see my differences as bad. In months following the tragic Zoom call that brought back all of my anger and deep seated self-hatred in full force I had to pull back. I had to start healing my younger self. 🌞 I put together this class based on what I’ve learned not just as a yogi or a black girl with #adhd , but what I have actually lived through.. I know we’re only scratching the surface when we talk about mental health in the black community but we can’t have health without healing. 🌜This class is donation based and open to all. ✨I hope we can heal together.✨LINK IN BIO🌙 #adhdawareness #yogapractice #traumainformed #healingjourney
