Every Good Path… This past year I challenged myself to learn. One of the things I did was a Bible Study of the book of Proverbs, “ The Way of Wisdom “. I was inspired by the idea that we are on a path. I had been wanting to paint my hiking paths for a while now but wasn’t sure how I wanted to approach them. Now I had my answer. The caption won’t match the carousel - stay with me? ❤️

Today at the tail end of this Nashville trip, I remembered the one I never took in 2024. I was supposed to be here two years ago, for a week of podcasts and interviews to promote a book. We heartbreakingly had to cancel the trip when I found out my stepdad wasn’t going to wake up from surgery.

Everyone I cancelled on was more than gracious - and I spent the next few weeks trying to be present in the grief while also stewarding the book launch as best as I could. I was motivated by the dozen or so people who’d worked on the book with me for years, and mostly by the women I’d written it for.

But today I remembered that trip and was flooded with gratitude: for God’s sustaining power in pain, for the grace of getting to write more books after that stunningly hard season. I was thankful for how present He was in the trip that never was and how present He was on this one.

So this is “count-the-fruit of this week” post, but my soul is still counting the fruit of unseen things: His presence in our pain, the morning that comes after the dark night, the ability to keep trying and keep going, the people who stay with us on our least shiny days, and for the ebenezer of trips we never took.

We praise You in the heartache and in the hoped for. Amen. ❤️

If “suffering people aren’t necessarily suffering because they’ve sinned” is controversial Christian theology now, I fear we may need to revisit the words of Jesus in John 9.

And if telling suffering people the truth about the heart of God means I end up dancing on my own sometimes…

I’ll keep dancing + speaking on my own.

I feel so fortunate to have collected some of the most encouraging, compassionate, fun, creative, and massively talented girlfriends over the years.
