ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE:

Where and all you are roaming, I say?
Why did the brinjal get an erection when I went to the market?
Isn't eloping cheap and best?
Why can’t there be a training program for marriage?

Meet Khanavali Chenni – she is either asking questions or being asked questions. Chenni was an iconic character who ruled the Kannada stage with her double-meaning, rib-tickling dialogues and sexual innuendo. The play traces the journey of a group of performers who set out on a search for Chenni. While trying to find her, they stumble upon several other actresses who had their own stories to share. Will they eventually meet Chenni? What will they discover?

Set in the ancient city of Ayodhya, Urmilla deals with several complex ethical and gender issues in society. The story follows the life of Urmilla from the Ramayana and how her life is changed by an innocuous order from her husband Lakshmana. Will she ever muster the courage to confront her husband and prioritise her own desires?

Meet the play's director Nimmi Raphel and lighting and sound designer Vinay Kumar, who will talk to Prachi Sibal about their experiences working on the sets and conceptualising the sets and lighting for the play in this edition of Curtain Call- The backstage stars!
