Taking Colby on a field trip last week was a pretty perfect reminder that sometimes, all it takes is a little adventure to bring out the joy in a dog. 🐾💙

Watching this sweet senior pup wade through the water with pure happiness made it all worth it. Moments like that are exactly why we keep showing up for them.

Colby is still waiting for his forever family at @seattlehumane. And honestly… I’m not sure what he’s waiting for.

PORSCHE knows ball! This 5-year-old, gorgeous lady is spunky and loves a good game of fetch. She can also Netflix and chill as well.

Porsche has been waiting for a home for months and months. What is even more unbelievable is that she has not had one single adoption meet in months as well.

She may need to be the only dog in the home, but no worries because Porsche will keep you busy playing fetch and sniffing on walks. Scroll to see Porsche in action. Better yet, come to Seattle Humane and meet her in person.

There is an adoptable dog at @seattlehumane
whose heart never learned to measure itself.

It is oversized—
like his paws,
like his smile,
like the hopeful thump of his tail
every time footsteps slow outside his kennel.

His name is Toby.

He is a big boy,
the kind who fills a doorway,
leans into your side,
and somehow still believes
he can fit perfectly in your lap.

He loves the beach,
where the waves become his playmates.
He loves long walks,
where every scent is a story worth reading.
He loves car rides,
content simply to be headed somewhere
with someone he trusts.

He knows his manners.
He knows his “sit,”
his “wait,”
his “shake.”
But more than commands,
he knows how to love—
steadily,
patiently,
without keeping score.

Some dogs are looking for a house.

Toby is looking for a person.

Someone who sees that being big
only means there’s more of him to love.
Someone who doesn’t pass him by
because another dog is smaller,
younger,
or louder.

If you have room in your life
for eighty-something pounds of loyalty,
for a best friend who will happily ride shotgun,
chase waves,
and greet every day like an adventure—

please meet Toby.

Because dogs like him don’t just find homes.

They become them.

Adoptable Colby watched a volunteer worker (i.e. me 🤣) fill his pool and concluded that nobody was taking this situation seriously. After dramatically removing his dentures 🦷 (possibly a steak 🥩 - shaped emotional support toy), he supervised the operation with a face that suggested several strongly worded emails 💻 were being drafted. For the record, Colby is thrilled with life… he just looks permanently offended. 🥰❤️ #AdoptDontShop

Very happy to now be at the highest volunteer level 💜 with the dogs 🐾 at @seattlehumane and grateful that it allows me to spend even more time getting to know so many incredible animals waiting for their forever homes. 🐶❤️

From this level of hands-on experience, one thing has become incredibly clear: there is no shortage of amazing dogs, there is a shortage of homes. 💔🏠

For anyone who doesn’t fully understand why people say “adopt, don’t shop,” here’s why. Shelters and rescues are full of healthy, loving, funny, loyal, wonderful dogs already here and already needing families. 🐕❤️‍🩹

Choosing adoption gives an animal a second chance ✨, opens space for the next dog in need 🐾, and helps address the very real overcrowding crisis happening in animal welfare.

These dogs aren’t “less than.” Many are incredible family companions 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦, adventure partners 🥾🌲, cuddle bugs 🛋️💤, purebreds, puppies 🐕‍🦺, seniors 👵🐶, and everything in between.

The more dogs I meet, the more convinced I become… some of the very best dogs are simply waiting for someone to choose them. ❤️🐾🐶

Meet Porsche! This fetch fiend will chase and bring the ball back to you all day long. She is super sweet and loves to give kisses, cuddle and lean in for ear scratches.

This one’s ready to be your whole world and would do best as the solo star in an adult home. Don’t worry about her neckwear, Porsche had a little paw issue that has almost completely healed and she will be cone-free soon! Her new family can name their own adoption fee!
