O que muda quando a gente desacelera o olhar?
No Cartografia do Observar, a colagem é só uma parte do processo. Antes dela, vem a atenção. O gesto de reparar. De lembrar. De perceber pequenas coisas que, no ritmo do dia a dia, quase sempre passam despercebidas.
A oficina nasceu desse desejo de criar um espaço para olhar com mais presença e transformar fragmentos do cotidiano em imagem, memória e relação.
Cada pessoa chegou com um repertório diferente. E foi justamente daí que começaram a aparecer caminhos muito particulares.
Esse post é um pouco do clima desse encontro.
Talvez observar seja isso: dar tempo para que alguma coisa do mundo consiga chegar até a gente.

What a journey this has been: the production of PATTERN, the first book on Studio Grand Fall, a photo studio in Mauritania.

Finally - it’s out!! PATTERN نقش by Studio Grand Fall

Pattern centres on Studio Grand Fall and the work of photographer Amadou Fall, who documented Nouadhibou, Mauritania, from the 1960s onward. In the studio, families from the bush, the city, the region as well as Spanish migrants, workers, merchants, and passing officials sat before the same lens, bringing with them the city’s shifting mix of cultures and aspirations. The book focuses on the visual language of portraiture, patterned fabrics, clothing, and painted backdrops.
Each book cover is unique, printed on wax fabric in West Africa. The patterns used can be found in the book, worn by the client of the studio.
It is the first book on the practice of a Mauritanian studio photographer, whose negatives have been carefully preserved for years by one of his sons, Yaguemar Fall.

We did it. 10 days for creating the cover of the upcoming book PATTERNS @studio.grandfall locally in Dakar. Adrien, Nora and Lukas went on a search for great fabrics ( Thank you Sam from afriquen tissue) and the wonderful team of @debbodakar tailor them to size and finally got them screen printed. Local production! We also made some great contacts for the book to be distributed locally. Adrien is in Mauritania right now for the next steps of the project. Stay tuned - we will release the book in April.
