Advance Illinois promotes a public education system that prepares all students to be ready for work, college, and democratic citizenship.

Allow me to reintroduce myself. 👋🏾

I’m Terrence Chappell, Principal and Founder of @chappellcommunicationsgroup, a principal-led strategic communications consultancy helping social impact organizations and purpose-driven companies humanize complexity.

At a time when algorithms shape reality, opinions compete with facts, and visibility is too often mistaken for credibility, communications has become less about publishing content and more about building trust.

I help organizations transform complexity into clarity, translating their impact into stories that earn trust, shape perception, and inspire action by:

🟤 Building trust before it’s needed.
🟤 Elevating leaders whose impact deserves greater visibility.
🟤 Shaping public narratives instead of reacting to them.
🟤 Building communications systems that endure long after a campaign ends.

Swipe through to see what that work looks like in practice.

As we head into the second half of the year, I’m intentionally making room for a few new partnerships with organizations looking for a strategic communications thought partner.

If that sounds like your team, or someone comes to mind, I’d love to connect.

Or, as we say on the South Side...

Holla.

Meet Shelia Moore, a Hope Parent Scholar! 💙 We were at the Illinois State Capitol to share stories of HOPE for Illinois Higher Ed Advocacy Day!

We’re here to meet with legislators to showcase what’s possible when we remove the financial barrier of tuition for two generations at once. Thank you to our champions including @repkam_buckner, @staterepammons, @repnichols32 and @cervantesil1 for meeting with us today!

We’re not like other scholarships - we’re on a mission to create pathways to success for TWO generations of families, just like Shelia and her daughter, Dominique. Through our debt-free promise, Shelia is a Hope Parent Scholar studying aviation at @cccoliveharveycollege to become a pilot. 🛩️ Dominique is in her third year at @chicagostateuniversity1867 studying pediatrics.🩺

On the day the world gives thanks, I want to take this time to recognize all the blessings that God has given me and continues to give me during this year 2023 🙌. Since I began my adventure at Northeastern Illinois University my life has changed so much 📠! As I prepare to graduate next semester, Spring 2024 I look back on this adventure and all I can say is thank you. Thanks for everything! The good, the bad, the unexpected, and especially all the new opportunities I have received🎢. Thank God for all the things I have achieved since I walked through the doors of Alumni Hall. I especially want to thank the @advanceillinois coalition for allowing me to share my story, a story of resilience, and also to @neiulife for allowing this undocumented student to continue his education through their university resources🙏. I have been empowered by this school to continue advocating for more opportunities to be created💪. For that and much more I am super grateful! Happy Thanksgiving!🦃🙂 Health & Wealth!!💯

We were proud to be part of the 15th anniversary celebration of @advanceillinois a few weeks ago. Joyce has (literally) supported Advance Illinois from the very beginning. Our president Ellen Alberding is a founding board member and the organization remains an important grantee partner in our Education and Economic Mobility portfolio. You’ll see in one of the pics @govpritzker giving Ellen a quick “shout out.”

Congratulations again to Executive Director Robin Steans, and to the honorees, Gov. Jim Edgar, Bill Daley and Miguel Del Valle, for your leadership and tireless advocacy on behalf of children in Illinois and the belief that they all deserve a quality education.

This is a big step for Illinois in terms of creating more equity and alignment in our early childhood system. We look forward to partnering with Govenor Pritzker and his administration to further invest in families and children in the great state of Illinois.

Following the evidence. Being nimble and opportunistic where the evidence shows promise.

Those are the hallmarks of the Joyce Foundation’s thought leadership and grant making in education and economic mobility over the decades. Focused on improving prospects for children of color and children from marginalized communities, Joyce has stayed the course on one of the nation’s most persistent challenges: helping to build broad coalitions and to lay the necessary groundwork for policy reforms.

Learn more at the link in our bio about our Education & Economic Mobility Program, currently led by @stephaniebanchero, in our special 75th Anniversary project, “The Long Game.” And thanks to @advanceillinois’ Robin Steans for the kind words and for being such a great partner for education! #Education #Policy #StudentSuccess #Equity #GreatLakes #JoyceAt75
