My new book is finally out!

@adventsource just released "The Story," a Bible study guide for young adults. The book walks us through the entire biblical narrative; from Creation to New Creation. "The Story" proposes it as a compelling story to understand reality, as well as a beautiful revelation of the character of God. The study guide is composed of eight five-day sections, to be read alone or with your friends. It is a great option for your next small group curriculum.

"The Story" is the product of my D.Min. thesis, that showed that young adults can embrace the biblical story as worldview. You can order a copy today, to study on your own or with your local young adult ministry!

The link is on the first comment.

YALX: MARCOS’ EXPERIENCE
“The bitter cold wind blew outside the Galt House Hotel, and snow covered the ground with a beautiful, frozen blanket. Inside, we received warmth through fellowship at Young Adult LIFE Experience [YALX], reuniting with old friends and making new ones. We heard testimonies of how God leads young adults as they go through life. We received training to better equip us to serve alongside our peers and our church. As we braved the weather to do LIFE together in Louisville, we built courage, commitment, desire, and drive at YALX. God has placed passion in the heart of young adults and those called to ministry with them; To serve and to create the change that the church needs.”
—Marcos D. Alcántara K., Theology major, Andrews University; and Carolina Conference Young Adult Leadership Team Member

THE FUTURE OF ADVENTISM
Jake Mulder, PhD, is the assistant chief of leadership formation at Fuller Seminary, executive director for the non-degreed online Christian leader training platform FULLER Equip, and senior adviser for the Fuller Youth Institute and TENx10 Collaboration. I’ve worked alongside Dr. Jake Mulder for a decade researching what brings vitality to the local church, particularly in the Seventh-day Adventist context. So it was a delight to have him present on Leadership Impact at the Young Adult LIFE Experience [YALX].

Dr. Mulder’s presentation at YALX gave emphasis to current realities in the Adventist Church and gave a call for young adults to lead us into our shared future. He encouraged emerging leaders in the importance of getting equipped to take on weight-bearing responsibilities in the local church. Jake admonished current Adventist leaders and administrators that it is a worthy risk to pour into young adults who may falter and at times fail, but it is a failing forward process worth experiencing together.

“There is reason for great hope about the present and future of the Seventh-day Adventist Church,” observed Dr. Mulder, “but it will require sober assessment of current reality, as well as bold and courageous decisions to move into greater vitality.”

Coauthor of “Growing Young,” and recently coauthoring, “Future-Focused Church,” he has been a long time advocate of intergenerational collaboration and intentionality in giving emerging generations leadership opportunities for the sake of a brighter future.

“I was so encouraged by my time at YALX,” exclaimed Dr. Mulder. “Seeing so many passionate and capable young adults, accompanied by pastors and administrators, gives me great hope about the next season for the Seventh-day Adventist Church.”

FAITH AND FLURRIES
Contagious Faith, a ministry dedicated to sharing the truth of Jesus through music and online media, led worship throughout Young Adult LIFE Experience [YALX].

“We strive to creatively and musically express Biblical truth in an appealing yet uncompromised way,” shared Anthony Cortés III, OD, bassist for Contagious Faith.

Sabbath morning, Dr. Joi McClellan, an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Resident, at Loma Linda University, shared her faith journey at YALX inspiring all with her courage and candor.

“Dr. Joi inspired me by the way she emphasized that giving everything to God and following Him wholeheartedly is something we do continually; Renewing that surrender of self again and again,” lauded Anthony. “What a great reminder.”

A faith building surprise was the extended stay in Kentucky due to the winter storms’ impact on air travel. All the members of Contagious Faith have full time lives and work beyond their ministry endeavors, but they took this inconvenience in stride.

“We made the best of it,” confessed Lisa, who is a vocalist and worship leader with the group. “Most of us worked online and those who didn’t were thankfully notified that their offices were closed. We braved the ice and found perhaps the only other place that was open, enjoyed some food and leisurely worked by a fireplace. God always knows what He’s doing, including forced breathers.”

When life doesn’t go as planned, what do you do?
