And that’s a wrap on harvest!

Early mornings, late nights and lots of work but it’s always worth it to see the incredible grape our estate produced this last year. Big Kudos to this small but mighty team. NEXT, we let our winemakers do their thing before it gets barreled and we let the wine gods take over. 📸: @ketanmorris

I will never delete this video of learning to do punch downs @resonancewines when I have evidence of winemaker Guillaume Large in the background giving me a ‘Bravo’! Merci pour l’experience 🙏🍇

Earth Day, celebrated annually on April 22nd, holds significant importance as a global event dedicated to environmental protection and raising awareness about the challenges facing our planet. It serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility to take care of the Earth and its ecosystems for current and future generations.

It was on Earth Day in 2022 that I first learned about regenerative farming from none other than Jason Haas, Partner and General Manager of Tablas Creek Winery, renowned as America’s inaugural Regenerative Organic Certified™ (ROC™) Winery. As part of a writers’ group touring their vineyard, Jason shared a statement that left an indelible impression on me, reshaping my perspective.

“If you can increase the carbon content of the world’s top soil by 1%, you’d be able to undo all of the CO2 that has been released from the beginning of the industrial revolution”

Now that’s a Big Hairy Audacious Goal!

Over the past couple of years, I’ve delved deeper into regenerative farming methods. These approaches not only rejuvenate soil health but also facilitate carbon sequestration, effectively contributing to the mitigation of climate change.

That’s why I’m thrilled to be part of documentary project started by Robin and Michael of Crushed Grape Chronicles called “Can Wine Save The Planet” It’s a long term project that will share the stories of winegrowers who are not only adapting to climate change, but are leading the charge in mitigating its impact.

Check out the link in my bio for more. I hope you’ll be inspired to contribute to the funding of this groundbreaking effort.

Together, we can create a more sustainable and resilient world for generations to come. Join the movement and let’s make every day Earth Day!

Thank you so much to @advinetures for visiting us a few weeks ago! Normally we are a tiding of two, but due to scheduling, it was only @madameelentone to hold down the fort. Though initially nervous, Allison and Chris immediately put me at ease. Please check out their incredibly generous article on our backstory and what we have been working on. Link in bio. Cheers!

Our friends from BC Canada were finally able to make the trek south. Their original plans to come visit were dashed by the pandemic. So glad it all came to fruition ❤️

What a wonderful story they wrote about their visit!

Two weeks road tripping south with Jack, the beach-obsessed border collie. Washington, Oregon & California. Places we visited along the way as we took 7 days to make our way down to the California desert: Olympic National Park (which we reached by taking the Coho ferry from Victoria BC to Port Angeles in Washington state), Seabrook (a hidden gem of a place), Cannon Beach, Newport Beach, Redwoods National Park (majestic trees!), Eureka (with its ornate Victorian mansions), Humboldt Redwoods State Park (more epic trees!), Carmel-By-The-Sea, San Simeon, and then we spent five days with friends in La Quinta. The four hikes in the desert are pictured in the reel: Gold Hill, East Indio Badlands, Grottos Overlook to Hidden Spring, and Painted Canyon (where Dave ably carried a very dubious dog up the ladders). Each hike was quite different, and uniquely beautiful in a way that dramatic rock formations and flora in the desert can make these things. We returned via the I-5, through the agricultural heartland of California and its kazillion acres of flowering almond trees. Overnighted near Redding, then hooked out to drive through the gorgeous Willamette Valley to Cannon Beach in Oregon for one last beautiful coastal beachwalking layover, then home. February wasn’t the best choice for travelling down the coast - we encountered a lot of wet weather along the way (and a lot of rainbows!), but it was still a beautiful drive, and the beach towns that we visited were not too overrun with tourists. #seabrook #redwoods #innatcannonbeach #wadenseaseabrook #carterhouseinns

Venturi-Schulze is a unique, authentic winery and estate vineyard, known for delicious 100% estate-grown wines, in addition to ancient-method balsamic vinegar.

We visited with Michelle Schulze last month during our mini-tour of Cowichan Valley wine country. She is such a character, and as authentic as it gets.

Michelle manages the vineyard and works closely with her step-father, Giordano Venturi, to make the wine. Her mother Marilyn is also hands-on, a scientist excelling in vinegar production.

During our visit, Michelle poured us four current releases and three unreleased wines.

We tasted 2016 Brut, 2014 Kerner, 2016 Pinot Noir Reserve, and 2013 Brandenburg No. 3.

The unreleased wines we tasted: 2022 Maranello Rosé, 2017 Pinot Noir and 2018 Zeigelt.

We enjoyed all of them but our favorites were the powerhouse 2016 Pinot Noir Reserve and the bubblicious 2016 Brut, which we brought home.

But don't just take our word for it. Both the well-known "The Herbfarm Restaurant" in Woodinville and the popular "Hanks *a restaurant" in Victoria serve Venturi-Schulze wines. So, give them a try!
