We came for the Instagram-famous little restaurant tucked into the cliffs of Ebenalp… and almost walked right past it. 😅

But what impressed me most were the Wildkirchli caves, where Neanderthals once sheltered and giant cave bears hibernated thousands of years ago. Later, hermits lived here, and visitors even had the entrance widened with explosives to make access easier!

And then there were the chickens at the restaurant! 🐓 I’ve honestly never seen chickens like these before — another unexpected highlight of our trip.

🏔️ Our tip: Take the cable car up, explore the caves and enjoy the views. With kids, check trail conditions first, as the path is steep and rocky in places. Without kids, you could add a longer hike.

Sometimes the best travel memories are the things you never expected to find. 🇨🇭

Ebenalp is a great place. As is the whole of Appenzell. Most underrated spot in Switzerland from my experience this June. Gotta grab a brew at the Berggasthaus Aescher and take in the scenery on your hike.
