🏀 GAME PREVIEW 🏀

Affinity Institute Cavan Eagles host Hermitage Clinic Ongar Chasers in the Division 2 Cup on Saturday evening.

🏆 Men's National League Division 2 Cup – Preliminary Group
📅 Saturday 24th October
⏰ 5.45pm tip-off
📍 Virginia Show Centre

Like the Eagles, Ongar are in their first season at national level. The Dublin 15 club opened with a 106–73 win away to Trinity College. Last weekend they led Fr Mathews by 12 in the third quarter before Fr Mathews came back to win 84–76 in Dublin. Ongar are a strong, physical side, and they'll arrive in Virginia determined to bounce back.

The Eagles also come in at one win and one defeat. They lost 76–72 in Cork on opening night, then made history in Virginia by beating Trinity College 73–60 for the club's first ever win at national level.

Fritz Hauser led the way that night with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Dan DeBoss had a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds. Vito Boronenko added 14, Audrius Urbanavicius had 11 points and 8 rebounds off the bench, and Sean Brady was +19 while on court. Head coach Ryan McCormick will be looking for the same team effort again.

It's a double-header: the women play SETU Waterford Wildcats at 3pm.

💶 Adults €5 | Under-18s €2 (pay at the door) per game.

Let's fill the Show Centre! 💙💛

🏀 PRE-SEASON WARM-UP GAME

🆚 BC Wolves
🏆 Men's National League Division Two
📍 Away
📊 Final score: Cavan Eagles 67 – 71 BC Wolves

A competitive pre-season outing saw the Eagles go toe-to-toe with BC Wolves in a back-and-forth encounter.

The Eagles took control in the third quarter, opening up a commanding 15-point lead.

BC Wolves responded with increased pressure and intensity, mounting a strong comeback to turn the game around and take it 71–67.

Plenty of positives to take from it — valuable minutes, a real test, and more work done ahead of the new season.

🦅 Onwards.

WELCOME TO CAVAN | Affinity Institute Cavan Eagles · Men's National League Division Two · 2026/27

Say hello to our American signing for the 2026/27 National League season — 6'8" forward Fritz Hauser!

Fritz joins the Eagles from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, where he has just finished a four-year career with the Cardinals in the NESCAC, one of the strongest conferences in NCAA Division III basketball.

He saved his best season for last. In his senior year he started all 30 games, averaging 28.3 minutes and posting a career-best 274 points and 159 rebounds while shooting 36.4% from three. In February he was named NESCAC Player of the Week after a 30-point night against Bates, hitting eight three-pointers — one short of the Wesleyan single-game record.

He leaves Middletown with just over 800 career points and two seasons most players only dream of: an NCAA Final Four run in 2024/25, the first in the programme's history and off an undefeated regular season, followed by a Sweet Sixteen appearance and a NESCAC final in 2025/26.

A product of St. Johnsbury Academy in Vermont, Fritz brings real size, shooting and rebounding to our National League side — and he is already putting his hand up off the court as well, taking on an assistant coaching role with our Under 18 Boys.

Welcome to Cavan, Fritz!
