Dear @grey__moth 💙 I’m feeling sentimental about the things we’ve achieved together; the many (so many!) films we’ve enabled, all the wonderful folks we’ve met along the way, and the places our hard work has taken us. It goes beyond anything we could have imagined when we were hashing out ideas, 7 years ago. We asked ourselves what a kind, community oriented production company could look like, without compromising on beautifully crafted, meaningful and forward-thinking films. Long may it continue. What a joy to walk this path with you all, my friends 🫶

10 Years of Deeper Into Movies birthday party at @mothclub 📸 by @ryanedgington A good movie can take you out of your dull funk and the hopelessness that so often goes with slipping into a theatre; a good movie can make you feel alive again, in contact, not just lost in another city. Good movies make you care, make you believe in possibilities again. If somewhere in the Hollywood-entertainment world someone has managed to break through with something that speaks to you, then it isn’t all corruption. The movie doesn’t have to be great; it can be stupid and empty and you can still have the joy of a good performance, or the joy in just a good line. An actor’s scowl, a small subversive gesture, a dirty remark that someone tosses off with a mock-innocent face, and the world makes a little bit of sense. Sitting there alone or painfully alone because those with you do not react as you do, you know there must be others perhaps in this very theatre or in this city, surely in other theatres in other cities, now, in the past or future, who react as you do. And because movies are the most total and encompassing art form we have, these reactions can seem the most personal and, maybe the most important, imaginable. The romance of movies is not just in those stories and those people on the screen but in the adolescent dream of meeting others who feel as you do about what you’ve seen. You do meet them, of course, and you know each other at once because you talk less about good movies than about what you love in bad movies. - Pauline Keal

5x5 Launch Night show report: theme NATURE On May 15th, 200 people gathered at The Conduit Club. They watched five plays, a spotlight spot and a panel. Broken: one concrete plant pot Fixed: hearts and minds Shared: biscuits and stories Notes: let’s keep doing this And if we do say so ourselves, this happened. Actors took to the stage — scripts in hand — and brought the writers’ words to life, guided by their extraordinary directors. What followed was an hour and a half of magic. We leant in. We listened. We laughed. We learned. We cried. We hugged. We talked about climate storytelling and the stage as a change-making space. That it was, and IS political. This one night will never be repeated. It lives only in our memories now, and we will cherish it. Thank you to our fearless collaborators — we are in awe of every single one of you. So many of you have written to tell us what the night meant to you. How moved you were by the plays. How reinvigorated. How excited about London and its theatre scene. How it reminded you that you are an artist. We couldn’t be more proud. You had to be there. Until the next one. 🖤 Florence and Charity 5x5 NATURE Julia Grogan - In Our Nature Director: Eloise King Paul: Ragevan Vasan Amy: Jessica Regan A Natural Writer: Jess Cole Director: Grace Duggan Lexi: Genoveva Krumova JD: Eloka Ivo Talking to Mushrooms Writer: Morgan Lloyd Malcolm Director: Shalini Adnani Actor: Vinette Robinson Baby Director: Daniel Rands Writer: Elliot Barnes-Worrell Jade: Christine Adams Baby: Olive Gray Club Mangione Writer: Deborah Frances-White Director: George Belfield Angie: Jo Martin Baz: Bradley James Carol: Bella Danieli Dave: Owain Rhys Davies Reader: Abigail Berry Belonging Writer: Jonnie Fielding Director: Sasha Milavic Davies Tree: Pearce Quigley Parakeet: Danusia Samal Panel Moderator: Liam Freeman Lucy Stone - @climate__spring @danusiasamal - @greenriderorg @dfdubz - @theguiltyfeminist Florence Keith-Roach - 5x5 Charity Wakefield - 5x5 Sound: Emi Agbo Produced by 5x5 📸 @shotsbyaimee_ Huge thanks to @climate__spring @greenriderorg @spotlightuk and @jerwoodspace171unionstreet 🌱❤️
