👋 Age UK Exeter's Craft Group gathered last Thursday to thank Alison,Caswell, who has been the groups' facilitator for a number of years.

🥔 Alison welcomed me into the mix two years. However, has been volunteering for the last 12 years.
She saw a volunteers sign for a potato peeler in the Cowick Street window and never looked back.

🧵 Spending countless hours making the most beautiful creations to sell at fetes across Exeter and beyond, raising thousands of pounds for Age UK Exeter.

❤️ All is not lost as Alison will still be attending the group as the wonderful bunch of ladies that attend are now lifelong friends.

Stronger Together: Why Movement Matters as We Age.
Getting older is something to celebrate -and staying strong Mobile balanced and connected can help us make the most of every year.

Our sensational senior strength training class is about much more than lifting weights. It’s about moving well building confidence challenging ourselves and importantly enjoying the journey together. We begin with a movement-based warmup preparing the body for the work ahead while gently challenging balance mobility coordination and strength. These are the foundations that help us move with confidence in every day life that means getting up from a chair climbing stairs reaching for something on the shelf carrying shopping or simply feeling steady on our feet. Balance can become more challenging as we age which is why it is something worth practising rather than taking it for granted exercises that challenge your balance help us develop awareness coordination and control giving us greater confidence in how we move. Mobility helps us continue to move freely and comfortably warm-ups, take the body through a variety of movements encouraging joints to move well And helping us maintain the range of movement we need for every day activities. Strength training is particularly valuable as we get older maintaining muscle strength supports independence helps us perform every day tasks and gives us the physical capacity to keep doing the things we enjoy, but there’s another ingredient in our class -each other, we train together encourage one another and celebrate progress some days. We may feel stronger than others and it’s okay. The goal isn’t to compete with the person next to us. It’s to support them and be better today than we were yesterday. Comment ‘SENSATIONAL’ to learn more about these sessions. #PerformBetter #Health #AgeUK #UKSCA #eleikosport

This afternoon I attended Age Uk Exeter's Craft Group.

We're so lucky as a community to have safe spaces like this, places where you can come together, get creative, and chat about life, health, the highs, and lows.

Today's conversation went a little deeper than usual, and afterwards, one of the ladies said, "I'm glad I got that off my chest. It was good to talk about it"
Keep chatting people. You never know how much a conversation might mean to someone.

As discussed, if you ever need a helping hand, here's the link for GoodGym:
