☠️ MARAUDER MONDAY 🦅 This week’s Marauder Monday we are featuring Mr. Niño, a proud member of the Class of 2026 from San Antonio, Texas, majoring in Kinesiology – Pre-Optometry track. Mr. Niño served S-2 as our Guidon, Fire Team Leader, and Training & Discipline Corporal. Mr. Niño currently serves as the 7th Battalion Discipline and Inspector General Sergeant and will step up as 7th Battalion Commander for the 2025–2026 school year. He’s also a member of the Ross Volunteer Company and is contracted with the United States Marine Corps through PLC. No matter what he’s doing, Mr. Niño brings intensity and energy to everything he does. This summer, Mr. Niño will head to OCS for 10 weeks and hopes to be commissioned as a Marine Corps Logistics Officer after graduation. Down the road, he’s considering optometry school as part of his long-term vision (Get It?). In his free time, Niño lives life at full speed—scuba diving, hunting, fishing, skydiving, and hitting the gym. He’s also active in the Aggie Optometry Association. Fun fact: Since 1st semester fish year, Mr. Niño has achieved a 4.0 GPA every semester! No doubt about it—Mr. Niño’s a force to be reckoned with. Closing out 2023 with gratitude and starting 2024 with more big goals and vision….✨ • I’ve been learning a lot this year. One of the best things I have done is take more intention with is getting serious about the trait of consistency. It sounds simple but I learned that often times what holds you back from where you are and where you want to be, is because doing things repeatedly is really hard. You need to be able to keep “doing the doing” without seeing the immediate result of what your doing. Short term sacrifice for long term achievement. It’s about committing to what you can control and not sabotaging yourself with your own or others’ expectations. People often sabotage themselves because they think or pressure themselves that they should be “more successful” than they are right now… and they completely ignore what they have already done & accomplished. Congrats to Dr. Kaleb Abbott, OD, @tamu Class of 2014 and a 2019-2021 member of Startup Grind, now at @dsinnovation. Kaleb was a pro bono client investor looking for a student startup to invest in when he was introduced to @shellybrenckman, who was coaching @gavinml - a @maysbusiness senior - in the @eo_gsea regional competition held locally. Gavin had a drop ship product business that was generating revenue in the adult sports accessories market - sunglasses for extreme sports like water skiing and surfing. When Kaleb reached out to Brenckman, she connected him to Gavin. The student startup founder had advanced to the nationals at the Global Student Entrepreneurs Award event in Denver - close to where Kaleb lived. The two Aggie entrepreneurs began talking. Eventually, Kaleb hired a Silicon Valley industrial designer and an engineer to redesign some aspects of the slap eyewear concept that Gavin had secured an exclusive N. American license to sell from the manufacturer under the brand of @slapeyewear Kaleb reinvented the product and refined it with a focus exclusively on the children’s market. Kaleb created the new brand of kid-friendly outdoor eyewear and indoor computer eyewear called “Snappies”, under the trade name of @sunsnapkids. Last month, Kaleb won $10,000 in cash and a $600 in-kind prize from the @aaopt Bright Ideas Competition in San Diego, CA in his first live pitch at competition. Way to shake things up in retail optometry, Kaleb! The optometrist sells Snappies from his e-commerce site and through optometrists’ eyewear stores. Kaleb turned out for the Startup Village tailgate, cohosted by Startup Grind and the Aggie Entrepreneurs of Silicon Valley with Mays Business School and others. He was interning at the time with another optometrist and moonlighting on Snappies, diving in right after that event and launching his product as a global pandemic slowed supply chains worldwide. Kaleb is a great example of good ol’ Aggie ingenuity and hustle. Gig em, Doc!👍🏻
