Your brain’s age is not your birthday. 🧠

In my keynotes I show brain screens from recent aging research — and they surprise every room. Two people. Same chronological age. Completely different neurological age. The two numbers don’t move together the way we assume.

Which is why “older professionals can’t learn AI” is a myth with it backwards: a brain with decades of pattern recognition isn’t behind — it’s differently loaded. And neuroplasticity doesn’t retire.

So tell us: if your brain’s age isn’t your birthday — younger, older, or right on time — what do you think yours is? 👇

Most families are not prepared for emergent caretaking, and neither are their employers. Caretaking comes in many forms, from children to elderly, but the latter has a key difference- the emergencies which drive them.

Dr Pooja Patel from @agingtogetherpodcast helps families and employers navigate this stage. I learned so much in our conversation, and we hope you and your employer will too.

My mom passed away almost 3 years ago, and her final hospital stay still stays with me.

She had a hemorrhagic stroke, rapid decline, and a second event that changed everything. Experiences like this are why conversations about wishes, values, and care matter long before a crisis.

This one is personal.

She was on a ventilator. Her lungs were failing.
And nobody knew what she would have wanted — because she never wrote it down.
Dr. Pooja Patel shares the story of five siblings forced to make the most heartbreaking decision imaginable for their mother. No advanced directive. No healthcare proxy. Just five children and an impossible choice.
This is exactly why the conversation nobody wants to have is the one that matters most. 🩺
Have you ever had to make a medical decision for someone you love? 👇

My response to @drpoojapatekot's heartbreaking story 💔

Kids fighting over their dying mom... as a pediatrician, this hit HARD. We're taught to save lives - not talk about death.

But this conversation changed everything for me.

5 Kids. 1 Mom. No Agreement.

They all loved their mother.
They just could not agree on what loving her looked like in the end.

In this heartbreaking story, Dr. Pooja Patel describes a family torn apart by an end-of-life decision. Some of the siblings wanted everything possible done. Others believed their mom was suffering and wanted peace.

These are the moments that make healthcare so human — and so hard.

Last weekend, I recorded one of the most personal, emotionally heavy, and cathartic conversations I've ever held space for on our show.

Not as a host.
Not as a professional.
But, as a friend.

Sitting across from a younger caregiver who never expected this chapter to be part of her life.

We don't talk enough about caregivers who are too young for the systems they're forced to navigate.

Too young to have peers who understand.
Too young to be taken seriously by systems that assume caregiving comes later in life.

This conversation reminded me why this show exists--for the stories and realities that rarely get named out loud.

Melissa, thank you for trusting me with something this personal. Thank you for letting your story be shared with others who need to know they aren't alone.

This was a reminder that storytelling, when done with care, can be a form of release rather than retraumatization.

*Of course, we had tissues on standby.
