I first started listening to Tori Amos when I was in high school. I remember a friend of mine then told me that seeing her in concert was like having a religious experience. The first time I saw her live was in the 90s, and my friend sure wasn’t lying. It was transformative. Put simply: she sounds absolutely phenomenal.

One of the items on my bucket list has been to see a concert at Red Rocks. And Tori Amos was my dream, number one artist to see there.

When I found out she was playing this summer, I knew I had to go. So, @agisfunny and I hopped a flight to Denver, grabbed a rental car and headed to the venue. Despite being out of breath (the hills and stairs one must go up to get to the venue are no flippin’ joke), I couldn’t get over the instant beauty. Everywhere you look, there’s something gorgeous to see.

Alana put it well when she said it exceeded expectations in so many different ways. My mind was just blown the entire time. Tori sounded incredible. The weather was perfect. The vibe was hard to describe, but so warm and soothing. Despite being absolutely exhausted from the travel/quick trip (we were in Colorado less than 24 hours), I’m pretty sure I sat there was a giant grin on my face the whole time.

After the show, we got a couple hours of sleep before having a 3:30 am wake-up call to make our flight back home. During the plane ride, I was groggy, but filled with so much gratitude. What a wonderful adventure!

If there’s something on your bucket list, and you’re able to: do it now! Don’t put it off. Even if it makes you sleep deprived, I promise you won’t regret it.

So lucky I got to check another thing off of mine.

She has been heard on Never Not Funny, has been recognized as a ‘Jackie & Laurie Show’ Comic of the Week, and has performed at Gilda’s LaughFest, as well as Traverse City and Badgerland Comedy Festivals.
