A lovely night at Magic Bag seeing amazing women on the stage rocking out with two of my favoritest people. I was new to all three bands (Sleep Tight Tiger, Nine Perfect Lives, and Horsegirl), but am an instant fan. Concert number 8 or 9 (I think) so far this year is in the books! 🤘

We get like 10 days of perfect weather in Michigan each year, and I got to enjoy this one outside with some of my favorite people seeing Jimmy Eat World, Sunny Day Real Estate, and Get Up Kids at Freedom Hill. 💗😎 (Many lovely humans not pictured.)

Hey, uh, so if I haven't mentioned it yet, I have the most amazing people in my life. My birthday is not until next week, but I was very lovingly celebrated today by some of the most amazing humans. And the amazing folks at our trivia place (going strong since 2016) celebrated with us as well.

This is one of my favorite broadsides we have done yet, and as always, Andrew Davidson captured the world perfectly with his gorgeous wood engraving. This illustration depicts Fitz and Nighteyes in the wake of the Battle of Neatbay, a pivotal moment for the bond between the best human/animal relationship in fantasy literature. Rest assured that Robin Hobb will eventually rip your heart out in every possible way, but the enduring relationship between Fitz and Nighteyes is something deep and cherished amidst this series.

The Wind in the Willows Rebind

This one has been a long time in the making. Over the past two years I have visited Chad Pastotnik of @deepwoodpress a couple times since he is only a stones throw away from me in Michigan and there is nothing better than book talk (we even have the same alma mater). He is a wonderful man who is dedicated to running a true private press and generally does all the printing and binding for his own productions. A few years ago he published a beautiful version of Wind in the Willows under the @madparrotpress imprint with another friend of ours, illustrator Vladimir Zimakov @vladimirzimakov. He did some incredible lino cuts for this production and ever since I saw it I wanted to do something really special with it.

Chad allowed me to purchase one of the few unbound copies in sheets so that I could bring in a design binder to get this production to look exactly like I dreamed it could be. I had originally talked to Glenn Malkin @malkinglenn a few years ago about doing a project together, but nothing felt right until this project came along.

Glenn and I went back and forth a bit at the beginning and I gave him a general sense of what I wanted in terms of the color palette and what I wanted depicted on the boards, then he took that and ran with it. Even with a general sense of what he was going to do, I was still blown away with the final result. The leather onlays that make up the willow tree branches are gorgeous and the whole thing works wonderfully together. There isn't a single think I would change if I could!

A huge thanks to everyone involved who made this possible, this will be a family heirloom for many generations to come.

Happy to report that I can add another artistic skill (cake decorating) into the "Does Not Possess" column of my social resume.

But I had fun with lovely friends AND got to take home a cake. 😎🎂
