Happy World Book Day! 📖 Today we’re also wishing good luck to all the students taking their final exams! 📚 Frances Wren painted Original Library Reading Room at a moment when the library was alive with the same energy many of you are feeling right now. What better way to mark @UNESCO’s annual celebration of books and reading than with a scene where books are at the centre of it all. You’ve got this, McGillians! 💪 Frances Wren, “Original Library Reading Room,” 1956, oil on board, 79 x 64 cm. McGill Visual Arts Collection, 1986-187. Gift of the artist. #WorldBookDay #FrancesWren #McGill #McGillVAC #ExamSeason

The McGill Visual Arts Collection presents Sky-High Trust: Kanien’kehá:ka Ironworkers Photographed by David Grant Noble! Ironworking has been central to the Kanien’kehá:ka since the late nineteenth century. Generations of Ratirihstakéhronon have travelled to high-steel jobs across North America, contributing their skill and courage to major city construction. David Grant Noble’s 1970 photographs, taken in New York City, offer a rare view into this world. Welcomed by the workers who recognized the importance of making their expertise visible, Noble worked alongside them on the beams, balancing documentary observation with refined artistic sensibility. The photographs foreground both the photographer’s vision and the ironworkers’ agency. In 2025, Noble donated prints to the McGill Visual Arts Collection to be studied and shared on Kanien’kehá:ka territory. Visit the exhibition at the McLennan Library Building, Ground Floor, from January to May 2026! Link in bio for more information.
