So exciting to have been apart of #nightlightyyc for @nightlight_vicpark ! I teamed up with @studioluma.xp to build a giant glow in the dark interactive art wall, designing and building the giant UV pen to bring the wall to life with your imagination! This installation was named “A Canvas of Light and Shadow” and was separated into 2 sides. Side A was an interactive canvas painted with high potency UV paint. You could use a giant UV black light Pen to draw on the canvas and let your imagination guide you hands. Side B was a photo op, using the same canvas. Get ready for a pose, wait for the timer and 📸 a large flash instantly captures your shadows silhouette on the canvas! Further experimenting with small black lights to draw and add details onto your next pfp.

A visit to the doctor should leave you feeling heard, supported, and empowered—not questioning yourself. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case for our incredible host, Aisha Alfa.

On day 3 of filming, we recreated her doctor’s appointment because far too many women have experienced the same thing. But we also showed what a doctor’s visit could look like—one where concerns are taken seriously and patients are treated with compassion and respect.

Advocating for your health can be difficult, but we hope this moment in the documentary encourages women to trust themselves, ask questions, and continue fighting for the care they deserve.

Our next Alumni Feature is Anna Murynka!

When asked what she is doing now and what her years with Yalenka meant to her this is what she has to say:

"I always had a passion for art and design, leading me to study Environmental Design at UBC. I had been planning on pursuing architecture, but after a chance encounter with a production designer, I pivoted to film and ended up in Toronto designing spaceships for The Expanse and Star Trek. I’ve since moved back home to Calgary with my husband and am fortunate enough to be able to continue working in film here. Working as a set designer / art director has been deeply fulfilling, allowing me to merge creativity with my love for storytelling.

Looking back, I can see how much my fourteen years as a dancer with Yalenka shaped me. My favourite dances were always those with a story or even just props! And above all else, I loved Yalenka’s annual storyline! I am so thrilled to see this tradition continue, especially because it is so unique - I’ve never heard of another Ukrainian dance school taking this approach and am so grateful to have danced with the school that does. So of course… One of the biggest highlights of my dance career was playing Gretel in Yalenka’s 2006 production of Hansel and Gretel.

Yalenka gave me incredible friendships, travel, workshops, and many important skill sets. Reflecting on even this small part of my journey fills me with gratitude. Having grown up watching my sisters dancing, I can’t even remember a time before Yalenka. Now, I get to watch my nephews carry on the tradition (as my mother dances with them!). Cheers to 50 years, Yalenka, and here’s to 50 more! I’m so proud to have been a part of your story."

I love getting to film during cocktail hour and capturing your guests, especially when there’s lawn games, charcuterie boards @onebitebox, and a mobile cafe @hayloftcafeyyc 😍☕️
Some couples opt to do their photos during cocktail hour, while others prefer to be part of it. If your timeline allows for it, I absolutely encourage you to schedule at least a little bit of time to spend with your guests during cocktail hour. Grab a drink, some snacks, and relax with your guests as you soak in that just married feeling 🥰

Anna & Dave Part 3: Vows & Ceremony
“I love you not just for the excitement, but for the joy you bring to an ordinary day. I want ten thousand ordinary days with you.” 🥹🫶🏼

This day started off with a crazy wrench thrown into the plans when we had to make a pit stop at the registry office to fix a clerical error on their marriage license! Nothing screams “ordinary day” quite like jumping in line at the registry 😜 As soon as that was all fixed we headed out to @jumpingpoundranchweddings for their gorgeous ceremony with the most heartfelt vows 🤍
