CONSISTENCY CREATES PREDICTABILITY.

When it comes to grip, there are two core principles that I think any methodology needs to support: consistency and durability.

Consistency applies to both placement and pressure…

I want both hands reasonably high on the pistol relative to the reciprocating mass of the slide, with as much meaningful contact between my hands and the frame as reasonably practical. I don’t want to leave parts of the gun available to control that I could otherwise have my hands on.

Both hands also need to apply consistent pressure, but they have different primary functions…

The firing hand has to grip the pistol while still allowing me to press the trigger fast and straight to the rear without unnecessarily moving the gun. The non-firing hand’s primary function is gripping the pistol, and I want enough pressure there to support aggressive shooting without having to progressively increase that pressure once I start firing.

That grip also needs to be durable. If I put a 22-round magazine in the gun and fired it as fast as I’m capable of shooting, can I maintain my intended placement and pressure throughout the entire string without having to rebuild my grip? If I can’t, then there’s something worth looking at.

Predictability is a byproduct of consistency…

I can’t intelligently predict a specific behavior from the pistol if my grip is consistently inconsistent. If I want to learn what the pistol does, I first need to be consistent about what I’m doing to the pistol.

Stay locked in.

Regardless of circumstance, once something’s happens that can quickly derail you from your performance the objective is to remain logical in thinking while working a problem without allowing emotion to take over. This translates to an issue arising during a run where if the emotion consumes the end user the outcome will not be favorable Vs. remaining steadfast and resolved while working the issue, fixing it and going right back into execution mode without fail and while collecting as many points as possible. 🫡

The mental game and learning that comes with a variety of its own adversities. Once faced and mastered staying on track does not become very difficult following but can in fact prove to be very rewarding in the long run.

Make Men Masculine Again.

A husband can’t outsource his responsibility. A father can’t delegate his duty. The role of a husband and father carries with it the responsibility of protecting those entrusted to his care.

That requires far more than just good intentions. It requires capacity, competency and capability. These aren’t inherited, purchased, or wished into existence… they’re developed through intentional and disciplined preparation.

Train accordingly.

I’ve found that too many people spend their lives trying to avoid hard. But hard isn’t the problem. Hard is literally unavoidable. The only thing we get to choose is which hard we want.

Discipline is hard… and so is regret. Training is hard… and so is being unprepared. Saving money is hard… and so is living under financial pressure. Honest conversations are hard… so are broken relationships.

Everything costs something. There is no free lunch. The price of discipline is usually paid upfront. The price of laziness is usually paid with interest. Every decision is an investment in the person you’re becoming.

Pick your hard.
