What if we thought about everyday choices as opportunities to shape a better world? Henry Mathys, Strategic Programme Manager at the V&A Waterfront, wants people to leave his session thinking differently about where design belongs in our daily lives. Not only in the big decisions but in how we interact with our colleagues, stakeholders and the environment around us. Because design thinking isn’t just something we apply to projects. It can shape the systems we build, how we think and how we work together and choose to act every day. Join Henry and 20 other global voices at Pan Afrikan Design Week 2026 as we explore one shared question: How do we design to thrive? 📅 21–24 October 2026 📍 Workshop17, Watershed, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town 🎟️ Get your tickets at the link in our bio #designtothrive #africandesign #designthinking #futurebuilders #PADW2026

A NEW COLLABORATION FOR PAN AFRIKAN DESIGN WEEK 🌍 The Pan Afrikan Design Institute is proud to announce a collaboration with the Africa International Design Awards in support of Pan Afrikan Design Week 2026. For both organisations, this partnership is about more than celebrating design. It is about building connections, creating opportunities and strengthening Afrika’s place in the global design community. As AIDA Awards Founder Astrid Hébert shares: “The future starts with education, is strengthened through representation and grows through collaboration and exchange. We believe in creating platforms that give African Architects, designers and creatives the opportunity to be seen, heard and connected, both across the continent and on the global stage. Design has the power to bring people together, challenge perceptions and create meaningful change. Supporting initiatives such as PADI Design Week is therefore not only about celebrating design; it is about building a stronger, more connected and more representative design ecosystem for the future.” This vision is echoed by Felix Ofori Dartey, President of PADI, who describes the partnership as an opportunity to “open doors and build bridges between Afrika and the global design community” by creating opportunities for Afrikan designers, innovators and emerging talent to connect and gain international visibility. Together, PADI and AIDA Awards are helping build a more connected, representative and collaborative design ecosystem, where Afrikan talent can be seen and heard and ideas can cross borders to shape what comes next. Join us in Cape Town as we bring together voices from across Afrika and beyond to explore one shared question: How do we design to thrive? 📅 21–24 October 2026 📍 Workshop17, Watershed, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town 🎟️ Tickets are available in the link in our bio #africainternationaldesignawards #aidaawards #AfricanDesign #FutureBuilders #womenindesign

What can Afrika teach the world about design? For Suné Stassen, powerful design doesn't always begin with abundance. It begins with the lived experiences of the people of that place, resourcefulness, cultural wisdom and the power of community. Across Afrika, people are finding ingenious ways to solve complex problems, often with very little. "Some of the most powerful innovations are born from necessity, lived experience and people coming together to find solutions. Imagine the potential if we recognised, valued and shared more of this collective ingenuity with communities around the world facing similar challenges." As Co-Founder and CEO of Open Design Afrika and Programme Director of PADW2026, Suné invites everyone, not just designers, to connect, collaborate and explore how we can design futures in which people and the planet thrive. "This event is for people who understand that the future is shaped by every choice we make, every system we build, the stories we tell and how we work together. The question is: are we simply going to sit back and cope with a future designed by others, or are we going to actively shape what comes next? And if we step up, what kind of future do we want to design, and who gets to be part of designing it?" 🎟️ Join us at Pan Afrikan Design Week 2026 through the link in our bio 📅 21–24 October 📍 Workshop17, Watershed, V&A Waterfront, Cape Town #DesignToThrive #AfricanDesign #FutureBuilders #OpenDesignAfrika #womenindesign
