Special thanks to @saltink.studio for the custom very comic book accurate retirement invites!!!!! I’ve always been a big fan of comic books and superheroes. And if you know anything about comics, you know the cover is important. There are a lot of Easter eggs on this one. What makes them valuable isn’t always perfection,it’s the flaws that tell the real story. Those imperfections can make them worth far more than the “perfect” editions. That’s a lot like my career. Here’s the truth: none of us starts out polished. None of us show up squared away on day one. Along the way, someone picks us up and puts in the time, energy, and sometimes pain to get us there. Some of those lessons hit harder than others. Every one of you had a hand in shaping me throughout my career. Whether it was through lessons learned the easy way or the hard way, it all mattered. I made it because of you and for that, I’m grateful. Even if I didn’t always show it at the time. Here’s the cool part. The longer I stayed in… the less trouble I got In and then I was the one guiding the young Marines through their careers. @aimsleym @gracearmogida @semper.ag

for the ones who always thought they fit in… but didn’t (and had better taste because of it). like a perfectly curated playlist a little all over the place, but somehow exactly right. founded by two eldest daughters and a youngest you can probably guess who’s who. you always have a seat at our table. ✦ coming soon

“Your baby’s ugly” is what we heard…Aimz and Grace @saltink.studio had a better vision. Grace asked us if we loved our brand. If we didn’t they had already been brainstorming ideas. Those ideas produced this! We met, used vision boards, and the super talented Aimz hand sketched the essence of our brand with Grace leading the charge. We couldn’t be happier with the results. “Friends gotta eat” came from Rick who said this to me as we laid out our skeletons before our first date. “We heard we don’t suck”, came from doing pop ups when people questioned our burritos. Aimz said she pulled inspiration for these designs from our endurance backgrounds; the grit and ruggedness. I would wear the bandana around my neck during my runs. But always the center theme being our first home, New Mexico. You’ll be seeing all these themes in merch, wrappers, and stickers coming soon! Aimz and Grace we love you guys! We can’t thank you enough for thinking of us💕

Today would have marked the 10th year I took a group of girls to the annual #AYAA competition. I started teaching high school art @mountstmaryacademy in 2011 when @vlm took maternity leave. I took my first group of just 7 students to AYAA in 2015. AYAA was and still is an incredible opportunity and experience for students and educators to see art, network, brainstorm and come together in community for arts sake. As my phone prompted this memory it had me scrolling through a decades worth of photos. We did so much. We traveled, we communed in sacred places with artifacts and ideas. We created public art, we worked through issues, we lifted each other up, I got married, birthed two babies, made friends and colleagues and most of all we MADE REALLY GOOD ART. Some of these young women are art teachers themselves now, some are creators, doctors, artists, entrepreneurs and so much more. All of them touched my life in a way I am eternally grateful for and I am proud to have been a touchstone in theirs. I love you all and miss you. May the students attending AYAA today remember it fondly and have immense success in whatever way they may find themselves needing. 💜💜 GRL PWR
