•excuse me, my liege, but this is a non-specific chain restaurant. Please take that mess outside. This post is brought to you by a conversation with @gloomandgrimoire and is in no way affiliated with Wendy’s.

Tagging some friends to do some version of this•

•I’ve seen so many folks do this one, so before August is over, I had to do mine. I’ve read so many good books this year I could have done 20 more honorable mention slides, but I chose my 5-star reads only. My worsts weren’t necessarily the worst books I’ve ever read, but they didn’t have ✨the it factor✨ for me. Tagging some friends to do this one if they haven’t already!•
Edit: It appears Meta has added an AI label to this post and I can assure you that this, uh, masterpiece of art, has no AI and neither do any of my posts. It’s fuck AI in this house.

•so I got into a new hobby of making digital collages (no AI was used in the process), so here’s my 2nd attempt at one given to you under the guise of movies I’ve watched this week as book recs! These are half of the movies I’ve watched since the 1st. Expect little explanations under each slide.

Tagging some folks to give me your favorite book and movie pairings•

•”Rafiki” easily became one of my new favorite movies. It follows two daughters of government candidates in Kenya as they try to find a way to love each other in the midst of personal and systemic homophobia. Pair that with “Vagabonds!” which is a delightfully queer romp through Nigeria. Both have lovable characters that you become invested in•

•”Coma” is a claustrophobic pandemic movie that is so existential in nature that it can throw you into a pit of despair. While “Just Watch Me” is not like that, both the book and the movie are a good look into how far we will go to follow (or be) an influencer and how if we’re not careful, that identity can shape our entire life•

•listen carefully, I am NOT recommending that you watch “Enter the Void.” I cannot do that with good conscience. But “Moonflow” gives off the same sinister plot, psychedelic journeys, and abundant reflections on life that “Enter the Void” provides without the visual trauma•

•this one is going to be a stretch, but stay with me. “Madeline’s Madeline” centers around a young actor who is struggling with her own internal world as the people around her manipulate her and turn her into their worst fears. I feel like the artist connections and the fusing of minds in “Immaculate Conception” fits this so well. While it’s not a 1:1 match, both of these will leave you questioning everything you know•

•both “Chalupacabra Y2K” and “Bottoms” are about down-on-their-luck kids fighting an evil force- whether that’s a rival football team or a sentient chalupa. The real comparison here is the beauty and power of what letting go of judgement and supporting each other can do•

•this one is a bit of a cop-out. Jane directed “I Saw the TV Glow” and wrote “Public Access Afterworld,” but I will never miss a chance to recommend Jane to anyone I can. P
