POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The first rave @matt.and.alex ever hosted was in #Brisbane at @ohhellobrisbane and it went OFFFFFFF.

And now if you listen to our new podcast this week you’ll be the first to hear which special guests will be joining us in Brissie for the 2026 version at @crowbarbris on OCT 29.

It’s definitely worth tuning in via @listnrnow or wherever you get your pods, because if you guess who each artist is for Rave #1 from the cryptic clues we’ll be sprinkling through the show, you can win a double pass to the rave of your choice later in the year. HOW GOOD 🚀🚀🚀

@airlingx , @thejunglegiants and godfathers of the tune rag @yachtclubdjs joined us for this inaugural rave ‘n shave sesh. WHO COULD IT BE THIS YEAR??

Either way, jump on mattandalex.com.au to grab your tickets because after we drop these lineups they’re not going to last long.

Huge shoutouts to @davekandotcom for digging into the archive and finding these sick pics too. What a legend.

Retrieve, the new EP from Brisbane artist Airling has arrived via Pieater ❤️

Late last year Airling, AKA Hannah Shepherd, shared her first new music release in 8 years to a warm embrace. As Airling, she pours her heart into life and opens it to the world through music. Following the release of her debut album, she found new meaning and direction in nursing, another calling for her empathetic nature. Time away from the industry gave her space to retrieve her inspiration.

Returning with a collection of sophisticated dream-pop songs that pair crisp RnB production with crystalline vocals, Retrieve explores experiences of loss, recovery, infatuation and power.

Out now via @pieaterpieater 💫

Retrieve (EP | 2026) by Airling
Produced / Mixed by Tom Iansek
Recorded by Graham Ritchie and Tom Iansek
Mastered by Andrei Eremin

R e t r i e v e /rɪ’triːv/
To find and bring something precious back.
To retrieve what was lost.
To go forth and recover.

Returning with a collection of sophisticated dream-pop songs that pair crisp RnB production with crystalline vocals, Retrieve explores experiences of loss, recovery, infatuation and power. It was written and recorded with long time collaborators Tom Iansek (#1Dads, Big Scary) and Graham Ritchie (Holy Holy, Scenes) - the same team as her debut EP Love Gracefully, and LP Hard to Sleep, Easy to Dream - at her home in Brisbane, 4000 Studios and BellBird Studio, Melbourne. Each moment played, spoken, sung or programmed by Graham, Tom and Hannah together. The first instalment of the EP, ‘Mona Lisa’, is a vibrant declaration of trust and leaps of faith.
Direct from Airling: “I’ve always had a fascination with the human body and the human condition… our fragility and astounding depth of resilience. My voice has evolved with me and my life. Connecting with people through music isn’t the same as helping the most vulnerable, but I find it weirdly similar. It’s a different energy but there’s this familiar warmth. And when writing the songs on Retrieve, I found myself in my favourite state... a song comes to me and I just play.”

This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through @music.aus

Slowly re-entering the atmosphere for 2026.

I say this every year but I want to shoot more film, more feel and more real alongside my digital work. In a world where AI is literally taking over our lives, I want to make the stuff that reminds us of our humanness.

Last year I split my work between two accounts of analog and digital: this year and moving forward, it will all live here together because both are valid mediums and important to my greater folio of work.

I’ve always felt the pressure to be this OR that. This year is the year where I will be this AND that!

35mm, 120 film, Polaroid, Instax, Handycam now all added to the lineup.

I hope you enjoy Blood Red Moon (link in bio). A song of loss but more-so about love. A moment of stillness and clarity amidst shock and grief. A song and tribute to my sister Kate, to my Mum who loved her more than words will ever describe and for all of you who knew and loved her too.

Big love.
