Sharing the video landing off drop zone a few days ago.

There were so many reasons that took me on that situation…1st didn’t check out the spot, 2nd wasn’t that good visual from the ground, 3rd followed my friend on a angle out of bounds, 4th upper winds were super strong.

Don’t try this at home.

Although I chose to land where I did, I selected that area because, among the options I considered safest at the time, it was a place I already knew visually.

Since I live in that neighborhood, I had observed the area several times, even imagining possible approach and landing lines in case I ever needed to land outside the designated landing area.

That familiarity weighed heavily in my decision. In a situation like this, where the time available to decide is limited, having some knowledge of the terrain, knowing the obstacles, and already having a reference for how the approach could be made can make a big difference in the decision-making process.

Obviously, looking at a location from the ground is very different from actually needing to land there. Some things only become clear when you are truly in the situation, and this landing also brought some important lessons.

In the end, more than simply “finding a place to land,” the most important thing is to recognize the situation early, accept that an outlanding will be necessary, and work with the best options available instead of insisting on returning to the landing area at all costs.

Fortunately, everything worked out — and this is another experience to analyze, learn from, and share.
