🌟Swipe through a walkthrough of our current group show “The Mountain Cannot Repair Itself”. On view until 30 October. Textiles have long accompanied people through movement and history, folded, carried, and passed from one generation to another. Their intimacy with the body extends from clothing and protection to comfort, touch, and memory, while the marks of handling, labor, and time become records in themselves. Through stitches and lines, fabric trace terrain, mark boundaries, and mend ruptures. Bringing together works by Marianne Fahmy, Omar Abd El Baqi, Aisha Azab, Gözde İlkin, Rawan Abbas, and Layla Tag, the exhibition explores fabric as a material through which bodies, landscapes, and histories intersect. The Mountain Cannot Repair Itself Aisha Azab | Artist Spotlight (4/6) 🪡 Aisha Azab translates traces of human intervention in the environments she inhabits. During a residency in Cumnock, Scotland, she struggled to connect with the unfamiliar landscape. Particular details became points of attachment: a group of trees standing apart from the surrounding hills. A tour guide’s remark that “the mountain can’t repair itself” offered a separate point of departure: a juxtaposition she wanted to explore. Through etching, repetition, and stitching, she turns these observations into a personal system of marks and a way of mapping place. It’s interesting what you hear when you really listen. We didn’t document this night nearly as much as we wish we had, so here’s a little of what we managed to hold onto. Every artist develops their own language over time, and for one night, very different ones somehow came together. Alia Nour pulling us in through deep, groovy rhythms. Ashrar taking it somewhere heavier, industrial and intense. Then postdrone working live with tapes, production and fragments of personal notes — building something deeply rhythmic and moving. Yach and the Sonic Voyagers opening it back out through jazz, wandering thoughts and something a little existential. Aisha on VJing, intuitively weaving personal videos through the night, bringing sound, image and emotion into one very complete experience. INTG launch at SamakLaban Basement — 25 August.

#SceneNowEvents: INTG is launching its first live night at Samak Laban Studio in Downtown Cairo on Tuesday, August 25th, bringing together a lineup of artists working across experimental electronic music, visuals, lo-fi beats and more. The night features live sets from Ashrar, Postdrone and Yach & The Sonic Voyagers Collective, a video presentation by visual artist Aisha Azab and a DJ set from Alia Nour. They Brutalized All That is Sweet by Aisha Azab has been part of Samaklaban since our early days. When we first opened, this piece felt so relevant to the conversations we wanted to have in our space that we couldn’t resist asking Aisha if we could exhibit it here. Through hand embroidery, steel, and mapping, the work reflects on Cairo as a city shaped by memory, loss, displacement, and belonging, while questioning the aesthetics of erasure and what remains after a place has changed. It has become part of our everyday, and one of our favourite moments is watching someone stop, take a closer look, and spend time with it. If you’re visiting Samaklaban, you’ll find it waiting for you. We’ve also shared a great article about the work in today’s Story if you’d like to learn more.
